I wish I would have been on top of this and picked up an extra one while they were cheap.

Get one of those giotek ones that is a pro controller and classic controller in one. (Only the second revision is).

I just poked around online and I agree that this is lame this controller is now discontinued and it appears to be marked up on Amazon and ebay and what not and you might get stuck with a generic version. This controller is still supported in Wii games and in Wii mode and they still sell the Wii mini...no reason to stop selling it.

Yeah, its very odd considering they are still trying to sell Wii VC games on the Wii U as a viable option, when in reality it isn't if they are discontinuing the required controllers. They went to the trouble of patching the system so that Wii games can awkwardly be played on the Gamepad (with another controller). They need to just fix the thing properly so you can play all Wii VC with the Gamepad or Pro. If they did that I would care a lot less about them rereleasing every single VC title to Wii U.

True, but the Wii mini doesn't have internet capability, so how would you buy VC games to begin with?

Use the Wii Remote sideways.

Excellent point, I guess that is there thinking

As long as the Wii shop channel is open on old Wiis and Wii U's they should sell the controller. Plenty of their loyalty rewards require it too...it wasn't long ago I got Starfox 64 with my club Nintendo coins. Either sell the classic or figure out a way to make the gamepad or pro controller to work with vWii mode on the Wii U.

I agree. I understand Nintendo is trying to move its audience onto Wii U and the Pro Controller, but the VC is so incomplete on the Wii U that Nintendo should still be selling the Classic Controller somehow. Put it on the Online Store or something.

If Nintendo is smart, they'll make the GC controller adapter compatible in Wii Mode. GameCube controls were possible on the Wii so the firmware is there, if only they can just program it in. I make it sound easy, but I know it's not. You can still do it, Nintendo!

At this point I doubt we'll see Gamepad working with Wii games

I am also very hopeful the GC controller adapter will work in Wii mode. I doubt it would be that difficult for them if they thought to include it. Doing so might help sell the adapters even.

It's possible. The existence of that adapter suggests that there's an even greater purpose for it beyond Smash Bros.

. And of course the Classic will not play Wii U games....

CoD, Mario, Nintendoland, FIFA, NFS, Sonic Racing, Mario Kart, Tekken, Injustice and almost every other game that supports the pro controller also supports the Wii Classic Controller. I bought 3 brand new ones for £18 from a Blockbuster closing down sale but stupidly didn't grab the 70% reduced Wii U Remotes.

Remember this early Wii U hack to play Gamecube games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4shni493cE

I really hope Nintendo release a firmware update that officially allows GC games on Wii U using the adaptor. I also hope they find a way to make them work on the gamepad but I won't hold my breath.

I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

No kidding. I almost bought a couple Classic controllers for my Wii, but then with the U looming on the horizon I decided to hold off because I assumed they would be irrelevant soon. How dumb of me to assume Ninty would have an actual well executed PLAN for the transition from Wii to Wii U, instead of just well... an emulator.

I've still seen them in stock at Shoppers Drug Mart, but they still even have DS Lites in stock, since no one ever thinks to shop there for video games, lol.
