So I got a hankerin' for some Star Fox 64 today. I was fully prepared to give in and buy it on the Wii emulator on my Wii U. The catch is the game requires the Classic controller which I do not have. So I head on over to Gamestop. No more Classic controllers in stock. The guy looks around on his computer- no other local Gamestops have the Classic. They all have the new Wii U Pro controllers instead (which makes sense). A reasonable person would assume the Pro would work for the Wii stuff since they have basically the exact same buttons as the Classic - but NOPE. And of course the Classic will not play Wii U games...
What the ef, Nintendo? I own your latest console, which comes with a very expensive controller, plus like 34,532 Wii motes lying around, and yet I cannot play the game I would like to buy due to Nintendo's peripheral schitzophrenia. I know the VC complaints are well worn, but seriously this is just dumb.
Actually, some Wii U games are compatible with the Classic Controller Pro, the second version of the Classic Controller.
However, I do wish that Nintendo continued to sell the Classic Controllers instead of discontinuing them in lieu of the Pro Controller.

you can get them used for $5 bucks on amazon. 10 if you want it new. the curved design.
I looked around and did not see them for $5 anywhere, unless you're talking a used generic version? I'd prefer to steer clear of 3rd party controllers.
Try other used game stores other then Gamestop. I have a few local ones and they carry classic controllers all the time. Also try checking out thrift stores and pawn shops.

Huh? I've never seen them that low. The cheapest used ones on Amazon.com right now are $27.50 + shipping.
Unless you're talking about the crappy 3rd party ones that break in two weeks (if they ever work at all).
nope go further down the list. two diffrent designs came out for the classic buy ninty. the curved ones are further down the list. they are white and ive had mine for four years. guess what??? it works just like the day i picked it up for thirty. i'm trying to save you guys some money but whatever.
I think nintendolife should create a thread and share our addresses and give each other stuff because we all get put in inconveniences and instead of fixing the problems ourselves, we'll just trust someone online we never met with our addresses >
Do you like videogames? If so, you must know
It's dangerous to go Alone.
I kept my Classic Controller Pro. But I would agree that the number of controllers is a bit ridiculous. I hope they keep the Wii U simple with the Wii remote, Wii U Pro and the Gamepad

I was pretty sure Target and Walmart and such still stock these in the USA
Brand new these were always only $19.99 MSRP
I bought one from Sears with a gift card I had....I have never heard of these controllers being hard to find. The classic controller pro is the better of the two versions from what I have heard.
I just poked around online and I agree that this is lame this controller is now discontinued and it appears to be marked up on Amazon and ebay and what not and you might get stuck with a generic version. This controller is still supported in Wii games and in Wii mode and they still sell the Wii mini...no reason to stop selling it.
