If you're willing to put up with Nintendo's 1st party Pro controller's awkward design then go for it. If not then you might wanna go with a 3rd party controller.
Has anyone used this for Mario kart games. I hate the layout of the classic controller, especially the left button when I have to hold a shell/banana behind me while driving. I'm looking into getting one of these if it has a better feel.

No one has, since it can't be used on Wii games, Mario Kart 8 isn't out yet, and there are no virtual console Mario Karts out yet on the WiiU Eshop. But it works great for Sonic and All Stars Transformed!

So I can't use it on my wii U to play double dash or MK 64 that I downloaded from the wii shop?
That stinks if true, but thanks for the info. I figured it would work for any game playable on the wii U.
Now I don't think I'll be getting it, at least not till MK8 comes out.

I don't even think that you could even use the Wii U Game Pad on the "Wii Simulator." It's a built-in Wii in a Wii U, so you have to use the Wii Remote or Classic Controller. I'm pretty sure that that's how it works. I don't own a Wii U Pro Controller, but if my Game Pad shuts off whenever I go to "Wii Mode," then I don't think that the Pro Controller would work either.

First party all the time. Yeah the third party is cheaper but as the old saying goes you get what you pay for. You could also just wait to see if they go on sale (I believe Target just had them on sale not long ago) or maybe look for a used one at Gamestop or somewhere like that.

There's usually an "open item" 1st party Pro controller at Best Buy. You can knock off about $6. "Open item" just means someone returned it and they put it back on the shelf.
I actually bought an open one at Best Buy, and it wasn't even used once. I could tell because of the packaging.
