I'd go for Lego City Undercover when you get a chance too. Great game that uses the gamepad in some fun ways.

This "Pro Pad", is it the Wii U Pro Controller? If so, a good choice for many games!

Yes I'm sorry I wasn't clear I was just being lazy and thanks for taking the time to post that link.

Well I've seen many excellent answers to all of your questions and I'm happy you're joining the Nintendo family there are so many games I would recommend, but my main advice is: if you're worried about the peice of games, I think you should keep an eye on Amazon, since their prices are usually good (especially for older games: you might find ZombiU for less than £10, for example).

P.S.: Pikmin 3 is never a wrong choice

Thank you! The price of games doesn't bother me, I think everyone would like to get them for as cheap as possible but I don't mind paying full price. In the UK that's between £30-40 it seems. I would think that's a fair price for most games if they are decent in terms of gameplay and length. I haven't received my Wii U or games yet they'll be here tomorrow so I guess we'll have to wait and see but I can't wait.

One more thing: SD cards can't be used on the Wii U to store games, only when it's in the Wii mode. (You need a USB hard drive for additional Wii U game storage.)

Thank you very much, I was already aware of this but it's good of you to point it out anyway. I have spare externals (mostly 2 TBs +) lying around I use them for work so I didn't see the need to buy another one.

Psst, check a few posts up.

I noticed it after I posted it.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Welcome Edie, I enjoyed and I'm still enjoying the Wii U very much. And some of my most anticipated games aren't even out yet. So I hope you'll at least get half of the enjoyment I got out of it.

No harm done your post was still informative and could possibly help others if they read this thread. I appreciated it either way.

Why thank you! Everyone here has reassured me about the Wii U. From what I had read online I was lead to believe no one had one, none of my friends do but I see there is a very active and friendly community here.

Actually, it's not really up to Nintendo to decide what price the stores sell their games for. It's just that Mario Kart will still sell for $50 after three years, whereas most other games don't.

The Wii U is great! Some great exclusives and as said you can play (original) Wii games too! I recommend Mario Galaxy 1+2, Skyward Sword and so on!!

And Super Mario 3D World is a must own!

Hi guys, here's another potential WiiU owner. I've recently sold my gaming PC and PS4 as I was incredibly bored with the plethora of colorless, overhyped "AAA" garbage. Almost every single game I've played in the last year was a disappointment. After years of playing grey/brown/blue filtered military and other type of games that take themselves far too serious, I simply grew tired and said "screw it, I've had enough".

Now I just want to play colorful, fun games and in the last few months, I've been watching WiiU/3DS youtube videos constantly. I simply love Nintendo style, and IMHO, this is what video games should be about.

Now, my main concern about getting a WiiU is the following; how long will the console be out there? So far, it's been a commercial failure and Nintendo is probably looking to replace it with more mainstream model (with similar specs like PS4/XO) so they could get better 3rd party support. I really don't wanna get into a situation where, come 2016, Nintendo replaces it with their next gen offering.

Also, since I have a single TV in my apartment and I'm married with a baby on the way, I'll be doing most of my gaming on WiiU Gamepad. I've read that the latency is amazingly small (smaller than the one on the TV), but is the image quality suffering when playing on the Gamepad? Are the colors OK, are there any compression artifacts? I would be playing about 2.5 meters (6.5 feet) away from the WiiU so I guess the signal won't be the problem.

I've also been torn between getting WiiU or New 3DS XL. Would N3DS be a safer bet since the hardware has been refreshed with faster CPU, so I'm pretty sure it's gonna last until 2017. at least. There is almost equal number of games I want to play on each console, so I can't make decision based on library.

So far, I'm leaning towards WiiU, but I don't want to get burned by Nintendo replacing it with a new console soon. Guys/girly, please help me decide.

This has been answered earlier in this thread.

The Gamepad output is not compressed, since it's a separate output stream compared to the TV (but the Gamepad output is at 480p). The graphics output are good for its purpose, but of course it can't match a 1080p TV output (even though many Nintendo Wii U games are at 720p). Please note that not all Wii U games support off-TV gameplay (it's a feature that specifically needs to be implemented by the developer). Some Wii U games (often the most interesting ones, IMO) show something completely different on the Gamepad than on the TV screen.

Hahaha what??? Do you know how the sales business works? Nintendo are they ones who artificially keep the prices high, not the retailers. They do this to increase the perceived value of their games. Nintendo "sells" their games to the store, then the store sells the games to customers. Nintendo ensures the sale price for consumers remains high by "selling" the games to the stores at a higher cost. Wal-Mart isn't going to sell Windwaker HD for $19.99 if Nintendo is providing them the game at a cost of $30+. They would be losing money if they did that, so they continue to sell the game for $49 or whatever to make a profit.

This is the same reason why Nintendo sells a 20 year old SNES game for $8 when on Sony/Xbox/Steam you can buy full sized modern games on sale digitally for the same price or sometimes less. Nintendo is the one pulling the strings here, don't be naive.

Unfortunately the colors on the GamePad are very dull compared to those on the HDTV, and the GamePad is not HD.

I don't think Nintendo will replace the Wii U early. Support will probably come to a halt when Nintendo releases its next console, but Nintendo releases consoles at a steady rate.

In reply to IggyZX; I received my Wii U yesterday and I'm I can say for sure that I'm glad I bought it. Even if Nintendo issue a newer console earlier than expected to replace the Wii U it's not the end of the world.

If Nintendo's new system whatever it may be is not backwards compatible with Wii/Wii U games you will still need your Will U to play all of your Wii/Wii U titles unless your plan on selling them.

You also mentioned you have a baby yes? If you get a Wii U now when you do eventually replace it in a few years time most of your library will be child friendly and you can give your Wii U to your son/daughter.

Whatever you decide I hope you have many a happy hour gaming.

Best Wishes,

Everyone is waiting on the next great console... The reality is game development costs rise every year (and with most gamers wanting bigger and more technically advanced games) I do not see games being churned out at the same rate as they did for PS or 360... And keep the gaming community happy. The most "AAA" games cost hundreds of millions of dollars and years to produce. My point is, even IF they are planning to release a new console in the next two years, there will more than likely be few launch titles available (just like this Gen)... Don't deny yourself fun, just because your friends don't wanna have fun... If you had tickets to go around the world and visit great places, but, the plane you'll be in is not the latest plane, and the places you're visiting are old (really old in some cases), and you could only take your wife. Would that stop you from going and having a good time? I hope you enjoy your new Wii U!

Just curious, which of all the games you got did you decide to play first? Or did you test play a little of everything?

Sorry I took so long to reply I went with Mario Kart 8, as I knew what it would involve. I am looking forward to getting online and racing there.

You have been most helpful and welcoming to me Jariw it is very much appreciated. ^_^

Yeah, MK8 is a really fun game, specially online or when playing locally with friends. Online, you'll be matched with people around your own ranking, so the competition becomes better when your ranking goes up. Occasionally, there might be some master player with a 13,000-something ranking that wins every race even with blue shells.

Great to hear that you have the system up and running! One thing I don't think has been mentioned is the sound system. If you have a surround system, make sure to get the Wii U to use it! For some games, there is a substantial difference played with surround sound.

IMHO if I didn't already own a Wii the top feature of the Wii U is the fact that it is backward compatible with the Wii. That means you have access to a library of thousands of native Wii games and hundreds of downloadable virtual console games. Wii games are very cheap now if you buy them used or even new. A great deal even apart from the current Wii U library of games.
