Topic: Finally caved and bought myself a Wii U, and there is a surprising best feature

I've been playing Nintendo games since the early 90's (I'll be 26 in a month) and I've been on the fence as to whether I would get a Wii U. My Wii basically collected dust.

I've stayed out of the portable market ever since GBA (I play it all the time, Link to the Past and FF Tactics Advance) and only bought 3DS this year to play Luigi's Mansion and in anticipation of this year's new and refreshed Pokemon game. I've been and remain really skeptical about the Wii U's software lineup, but I really want to play Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101, so today I caved and bought a deluxe.

I'm really impressed so far. The game pad screen is actually really nice and I'm able to go into my bedroom and still play on the game pad. Nintendo Land has some cool uses of the game pad.

But the craziest thing, that I had no idea about and just blew my mind? The Google Street View tours that are accentuated by the game pad. That thing really blew my mind. Using Street View on a computer to do this sort of thing is a really jerky experience. On the Wii U, with the game pad, you can give a virtual tour of your town. I took a walk through my sister's neighborhood in Japan (she is a school teacher there) and it was a really amazing thing.

I'm buying this thing out of loyalty to Nintendo (and because I have a month off before grad school and teaching start up again), but I am expecting them to reciprocate. My dollars want a Retro Studios, high definition, first person shooter, third person roller, god-damnitt-do-I-have-to-stop-and-scan-everything Metroid game. They want a new Star Fox. I'm starting to think they want a Skylanders/Infinity style game with Nintendo NFC action figures. My wallet would hate me but my dollars would leap to jump out of it.

Yeah, the Google Street U is really nice. I haven't really messed with it much though since that first week of owning my Wii U.

Also, I'm with you on the Metroid comment.

Cool. It's nice to see a positive response for once. I must spend too much time on Gfaqs where everyone goes to complain. Personally, I bought a Wii U to support Monolith Soft (which is part of Nintendo now), which I believe is the best JRPG dev, and even one of the best devs in general (SE doesn't do it for me at all anymore). It's funny, but the Nintendo Direct that showed "X" for the first time came out in January, and I bought one right after that. Sure, it's a long way off, but I've been enjoying the experience. For me, I found the drawing feature is actually one of my most enjoyed aspects I didn't expect. I'm not much of an artist, but it's pretty neat to be able to draw pictures and post them on Miiverse.

I haven't tried Google maps too much yet, but it was pretty neat to zoom in on the city my parents live in currently (they're out of country).

I also really like the gamepad, but you just can't explain it to someone, you have to own it and feel the functionality through day to day use.
