Zelda looked great but I wish it were closer to completion

Rimmer: "Look, I think we've all got something to bring to this conversation, but I think that from now on the thing you should bring is silence."

Homer: "Oh people can come up with statistics to prove anything Kent. Forfty percent of all people know that."

Microsoft: B. A surprisingly good conference from them... Their lineup was solid, they stuck to games, and didn't overdo anything
EA: D-. HOW DID THEY MESS THIS UP? Considering their lineup, the fact that everything was conceptual or boring just stung.
Ubisoft: B-. The Division and Far Cry 4 look great. A little more focus on Valiant Hearts and less Just Dance would have been great!
Sony: C. They messed up the ending of this. TV and non-gaming is what corrupted Microsoft to do what they did last year. A shame, given that they had such a great lineup.
Nintendo: A- If they showed Shigeru Miyamoto's games, I would give it A+, easily. Such a good lineup, told stylishly and without fat.
Overall: B-. Far too conservative to sell a weak next gen, and 2014's line up is disappointing, but there were some amazing gems, and indie gaming continues to be amazing.
My games of show were: Splatoon, No Man's Sky, Little Big Planet 3, Sunset Overdrive, Witcher 3, Bayonetta 2, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Far Cry 4 and Oni and the Blind Forest. Zelda U would be there, but I don't know enough about it too be confident yet.

Nearly everything they showed off period was dudebro, there was very little variety in the lineup. Almost everything they showed was either:

1. A shooter
2. A fantasy RPG (like Fable)
3. Had the same dark, gritty, realistic gameplay and settings that have become all too common in this industry

And that goes for first party, third party, and everything in between. The entire lineup is just really boring and samey.

What. Last year, I'd agree, but this year Microsoft actually had about as much variety on show as Nintendo. You had a zany shooter, a game creation tool, a an arcadey kinda game, Quantum whatever (despite the graphics seems more story oriented for a shooter, and if Allen Wake is any indication, it'll be so story focused that the gameplay suffers. A dudebro game would never do that), a western rpg that actually uses bright primary colors...need I go on?

Well, technically the amiibos count as hardware.

I was sort of disappointed when I realized that Nintendo did not mention their new QOL platform. They probably felt E3 was not the place for it as it apparently does not have to do with video games, but I just really want to know what it is, even if I doubt I will be that interested in it.

Hardware, and software, since they can be updated on their tiny little chips, and store information.

Not at all, Microsoft basically just added a bunch of mediocre RPGs to their lineup and little else. There's still several genres that Microsoft hasn't really touched on yet. Where's the platformers (and I mean a real AAA platformer, not the handful of forgettable Arcade titles they keep crapping out)? Where's the action adventure games? What about beat em ups? Nintendo and Sony may focus on a handful of genres, but they've got most of their bases covered (and hell, Nintendo pretty much emphasized that they value variety by creating not just one, but two new IPs in a genre outside of their comfort zone). Microsoft still does not. What's even sadder is that they're sitting on a couple of IPs that would help them with that, Banjo and Conker. And what did they do with them? They put Conker in Project Spark, which is pretty much just a lazy cop-out. So no, they've still got a long ways to go before they have decent variety.

Also, dudebros do focus more on story than gameplay. Gameplay is one of the last things that dudebro games are worried about, do you really think that we'd have so many CoD clones if that weren't the case?

You blatantly ignore the high quality indie platformers despite them being exactly the type of games you're asking for, as well as some of the best games put out in years; You ask for Beat 'em Ups, a genre that is largely dead in this age (unless you're talking about Fighting games, but they actually showed a couple of those); And Rare IPs? Have you forgotten the last two or 3 times they tried to revive those? The old Rare is dead.

And lastly, Dudebro games are not story-oriented games. Do you think anyone actually cares about the stories in a Multiplayer shooter? Do you think people could recite a single line in God of War that wasn't from the sex minigame? The reason they were given such a nickname was because it represented a game that was mindless violence - the grindhouses and Michael Bay Blockbusters of games.

Let's put it this way then. I want to see a AAA platformer. Microsoft hasn't delivered such a game in almost 10 years (which IIRC was Kameo in 2005).

Tell that to God of War and Knack.

Then do what they did with Killer Instinct and give it to someone more competent. Just because Rare is dead doesn't mean their IPs have to be.

@Bolt_Strike

You want a beat em up well here you go.

Also who's to say we won't see the other Rare Ip's comeback. We already saw Killer Instinct is doing well and Conker has been put into Project Spark. At the end of the day Microsoft has more Ip's than the Rare ones and in this case they decided to bring back Phantom Dust and Crackdown.

Those are Hack & Slash games

And somebody let me know when any AAA publisher besides Nintendo or SEGA puts out a AAA platformer. I swear we've seen 3 or 4 in the past 10 years.

Like I said, Conker being put into Project Spark is pretty much a cop out, it's a slap in the face to Rare fans who wanted an actual game and not a glorified level editor. The way they've treated Banjo and Conker this year pretty much says that they don't care about them, if they wanted people to get excited for the return of those IPs they would've at least shown some teasers.

Sony has several. Little Big Planet, Ratchet and Clank, and maybe Sly Cooper counts as well.

I try to forget about LittleBig planet, and Ratchet & Clank's genre has been iffy since its inception. I'll give you Sly Cooper, though. Can't believe I forgot about that one.

How is it a cop out. It just seems like an awesome thing that Team Dakota wanted to do with I that they're parent company happened to own.

Hey All,

Apologies for not dropping by earlier. I'm the community manager on Team Dakota, the creators of Project Spark. Things have been pretty busy this morning, but wanted to let you know we've been following this thread and others.

That's a completely understandable way to look at it. And it makes sense that anyone who was eagerly hoping to hear the announcement of a new Conker game (and there's many of you, clearly) would be at least somewhat let down.

For what it's worth, I want to give you Team Dakota's perspective. Not that it will (or should) change your mind, but so you at least have a little insight on how we're looking at it.

We love games. Old games, new games, classic games. Conker is something many of us grew up with. We love the heck out of the crazy little guy and we want to hang out with him as much as you guys do, possibly more.

Project Spark is a game that is designed to empower gamers by giving them the tools to make any kind of game they want. It's about letting you make your own rules, instead of just following the rules someone else decided to impose on you regarding how you want to play and experience your games.

Project Spark is a free digital download that anyone can play on Xbox One and Windows 8, the beta version is available right now. We're hoping to support this model is by creating the equivalent of "skins" in the form of DLC packs that provide different assets and visuals to allow creators added flexibility in creating whatever their hearts desire.

This is a pretty good overall model, since it requires us to only focus on the type of DLC we know our community will find valuable. We're a small team with limited resources, so we have to be very selective in what we spend our time creating. Conker has such a passionate and diehard following he was the clear first choice for us.

We're still working out the details of exactly how and when Conker will be available in Project Spark. At the moment, the team is heads down finishing up our Sci-Fi themed, "Galaxies," our multi-chapter adventure Champions Quest, and our multiplayer over Xbox Live feature.

We'll be releasing more details on our plans for Conker in the future. Please know that we love and respect Conker and his (in)famous history. We're huge fans of everyone at Rare and we're a very community-driven team that is always looking for your ideas and feedback. Please let us know your thoughts on what you'd consider the best and most respectful way for us to honor Conker in Project Spark.

One final note on Conker’s line in our trailer. It was important to us to be as true and genuine to Conker as possible. Not only was it important to get Conker’s voice right, it was equally important to let Conker be Conker. He’s not one to pull any punches, and it wouldn’t have made sense for him to gloss over the fact he hasn’t had a game in almost a decade. We were poking fun at ourselves, certainly not the dedicated Conker fans.

Thanks!
