Topic: External hard drives and formatting

I was wondering if you had a external hard drive formatted for your wii u and you were going to format your wii u, would the hard drive still work after formatting or would you have to reformat the hard drive losing the saves.

I think you would lose the saves.

What situation could you possibly have that you would want to reformat the Wii U but keep the hard drive data?

I was reading about transferring and it seemed the last step formats the source Wii U.

Transferring won't format the external storage but it'll only be usable on the target console.

So you can't transfer just one account from one Wii U to another? So if you share a Wii U then only one of the people will be able to keep all their save data to get it so each one has a Wii U.

Yeah, that's pretty much the length of it. You can only transfer the entire contents of the system. There's no way to split things so that the save data for different accounts end up on separate units.

It's sad they have some good exclusives but their consoles are inferior in just about everyway.
