This pretty much confirms a new title from that series. I didn't play the first one, but I'm sure Nintendo knows not many did, so if/when this does happen, I'm sure we won't have to rely on having to play the original to understand it.

A game like this is right up Retro's alley.
But they could also be trademarking, so no one takes the Franchise name, and its as simple as that. Or for future reference for Gamecube Virtual Console (If thats ever happening)
nice to dream but very unlikely. The rumored sequel was a rush job that Silicone Knights presented to Nintendo so they could get some much needed cash. An HD port or as Whirlpool mentioned GCN VC release is more likely.
If a video game deserved a revisit Eternal Darkness would be in my personal top 5.
Would love it if Retro Studios did an Eternal Darkness game, but I'm not getting my hopes. Their work on Metroid Prime makes me think they could be good at an ED game.
My guess is that it is just going to be the gamecube version on the Wii U VC. But an HD port would be nice.
They renewed it three years ago too. Unfortunately, nothing ever happened.
They renewed it and they were making another ED game, so that makes sense. And nothing happened because the game got cancelled, and that makes sense. So it seems to me that it would make sense that they renewed it again because it's in development again.

I wouldn't mind them releasing it on VC either. Hopefully we get both!

i really think this would be great. i bet they can think of some great ways to use the gamepad to really get in side your head. please, please pleaseeee let this be retros new game!!
A sequel would be a DAY 1 purchase for me, loved the original, but maybe they are thinking more along the lines of a remake, like each of the 3 levels would be completely different, like i think they were intended. and crazier reality oriented insanity features.

IF they're actually working on something, I hope it's a sequel.
I love the original but I cannot see myself paying $60 for the same game with better graphics. No matter how many extras they add to it.
