How exactly would Facebook and Twitter and some thing I've never heard of help Wii U gain sales?

The last time I checked, the wii u was a game system and not a computer! also I don't bother using facebook/etc.

I've seen equally as stupid articles, if not more, but ya, this ones in the 'dumb' category for sure.
They're already adding Facebook and Twitter sharing via the Miiverse browser version. Besides that, Facebook or Twitter could easily just port their app for Wii U.
Software like this can coexist. FB or Twitter being popular doesn't automatically make Miiverse look stupid. It's supposed to be relativity exclusive to Wii U.

He makes some points, kind of, although the conclusion is total BS.

"The second is to abandon Miiverse. It’s an alarming thought, given how much work Nintendo has already put into the service and its current position as one of the few unique selling points for the Nintendo Wii U. The company might need to take such drastic action, however, to prioritize existing social services as the default method of sharing in-game experiences."

This final point is indefensible; all the prior arguments given are negative aspects of the service, along with vague allusions to positive elements found in Twitter etc. The whole piece lacks embellishment, and until then I would have to agree with the OP.

Well, I did learn something new here.

I agree that Miiverse should be abandoned. There's no positive aspect to it whatsoever and it's just a drain on Nintendo's resources. If people really needed to talk incessantly about stuff, they'd do it on Social media sites they already use. Therefore, using Facebook/twitter/etc. would be better for the Wii U, since it wouldn't force people to use a completely redundant service with far less exposure than what they already use.

Facebook is losing registered accounts like it's their job, and Twitter has become a place of caustic slurs. I'm glad they are nowhere near my Wii U.

Miiverse is a wonderful creation by Nintendo. It makes the Wii U unique. It is beautiful to look at. Creative. Useful.
It is basically the Wii U's life, soul and essence.

Also, Miiverse has the ability to share gameplay videos and screen shots on the Wii U, alot like what PS4 is trying to do. You can also write, draw, and insert text.
There really should be no complaints, because it isn't associated with other social sites. There's already an FB/Twitter post option on the web version. That should be enough if people actually want to share Wii U related stuff online, and a Facebook or Twitter app could show up if there's enough people who want it.

That's far from the dumbest article ever. There are actually a lot of points in there that are correct. Enhanced social media integration would only benefit the console, there's really no downside to giving people the option to connect with family and friends more easily.

I really don't care what they do with Miiverse, but there are points in that article that would benefit the Wii U.

To answer the question in the original post: Why do you think nearly every electronic device is advertised by its social media capabilities? Its a huge selling point. That's why phones, tablets, consoles, laptops, televisions, soon probably microwaves and refrigerators, are all advertised as being 'connected' to the social media universe. That's fine that you and others don't care about social media integration, but a great majority of people do and that's a big deal when selling hardware.

Miiverse can be improved on, and my problems with it mostly reside with the people using Miiverse rather than the service itself. I would not like them to abandon Miiverse, since I like it a lot, and there's plenty of people I interact with on there.

Having a Twitter and Facebook connectivity as in being able to post things directly from your Wii U isn't a bad option. Replacing and abandoning Miiverse though? That's a bad idea. With the thousands of active Miiverse users out there (not to mention ones that spend hours on pixel-by-pixel art), that'd be even worse than shutting this very site. They should improve on Miiverse, and maybe add other options. Miiverse is playful, and it's being used by plenty of consumers, Nintendo doesn't need to screw over consumers to please other consumers.

please, we don't need any topics inviting users to bash things, whether it be games, users, other websites, or anything else. if you think a website has dumb articles, take their news with a grain of salt. problem solved :3
