Hopefully you give the game a chance because it is far from being a button masher. The combat system has tons of depth and strategy, and in harder difficulty settings the game will punish you if you don't know what you are doing.

If you like it, then Bayonetta 1+2 should automatically add themselves to your list of must buys, as they are made by the same developer. And I love to hear that you want to expand your interests. I try to do the same too.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

@sinalefa

You're doing a good job selling it. I think it's getting slid into the "definitely" file

Ya, I definitely want to expand my interests. The problem I have nowadays is that I grew up with a big group of kids who were all gamers. In the 10 years I didn't play, we all grew apart. Most of my friends nowadays aren't gamers, so the games like Wonderful 101 that back in the day I probably would've sat for a couple hours with friends getting into, I now play them by myself and for whatever reason I tend to be much less patient.

2014 Q3/4 line-up is going to be my most expensive 6 months of gaming ever, I think. The amount of games coming out from here until New Year that I must have is nuts, and most of them are on Wii U and 3DS.

My wallet is already drafting its will.

Captain Toad, Hyrule Warriors, Sonic Boom for Wii U (I'm giving the game a chance), Smash Bros. Wii U, Bayonetta 2, PK ORAS (maybe).... my wallet is crying.... Hahah.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

The Wii U's lineup has been gradually improving the entire time, but I think E3 2014 tipped the scales. That was when we started seeing more games and more creative games. It seems like the Wii U is finally starting to hit its stride.

Did someone say tip the scales?

I wouldn't quite say 'monster' lineup, but it is looking really good. It's already more interesting to me than the entirety of the wii's output. Nintendo seem to be really benefitting in a creative sense from developing for an HD console. The majority of stuff they've been releasing is genuinely A grade. It's great to be getting new entries from stalwarts like Zelda, Star Fox and Yoshi next year, but i'm really looking forward to playing Splatoon and seeing what those guys can come up with for alternate game modes and what not. If it has a really fun single player/local co-op in addition to the online modes it could have real staying power.

I'm like you in that i'd rather have a relatively smaller library of killer 1st party Nintendo software than 100-150 3rd party games that I have a variable level of attachment to. If Nintendo could publish 30 games this gen that are absolute must haves (for me...) I'd be super happy. There's already about 15, so if the wii u keeps going for a few more years that number will be around 30 in all likelihood.

Games which are yet to be announced but are somewhat likely to be in the pipeline include,

3D Mario (64, Sunshine, Galaxy successor)
Metroid Prime
Paper Mario
Animal Crossing
Pokken Fighters??
Pokemon Stadium type game
Mario Sports title * 2

...and who knows what else? Next E3 we could be potentially looking at having Zelda and Star Fox gameplay in addition to 3D Mario, Metroid and Animal Crossing reveals. WOW!!

Oh wow, total bummer! I was depending on that for this year.

@arnoldlayne83

I actually don't currently, but I am planning on purchasing one again within the next 2 weeks. At the very, very latest at the end of September when Hyrule Warriors comes out. MK8 & Hyrule Warriors are the 2 games I'm really looking forward to this year as my 2 favorite types of games are RPG's and Multiplayer games I can play with friends. By the way, is the 83 in your name for a 1983 birthdate? Wondering how many people are old farts like me, haha!

@sinalefa

It's that good, huh? I played the demo and it seemed high quality, but I'm not HUGE on action, button mashing type games. I do think it's a game that could grow on me, and I'm trying to expand my interests. I was a HUUUUGE gamer until 18 years old (2001), but then I stopped for 10 years, so I have soooo much catching up to do. I've hardly ever even played a FPS. I don't even really know what I like nowadays, barring RPG's and multiplayer games like Smash, Kart & Mario Party that I can play with friends.

Yes... I am quite a old fart in here... even if I guess there are older ones..

Overall 2015 looks better in the sense of offering more but the fact in 2014 both MK8 and SSB4 are out or coming out tops next year.

I'm glad u think the lineup is kicking butt.

Personally, I don't see me buying another Wii U game for a long time. The next game on my radar is MH4U on 3DS.

dumedum

I'm happy with the lineup, especially with all the indies coming all the time too.
Will only miss Batman, but then again, still did not play my copy of Arhkam Origins, so I won't have much time to play that, will probably be too busy with things like Bayonettas.

The lineup is fulfilled with good to excellent titles... The problems is that not all kind of games are represented in a way u can make a choice... If u like platforms u have plenty of possibilities, if u like rpg, shooters or other genders u r limited...

Based on my opinion and the fact that I've already played Pikmin 3, yeah

Are you suggesting it's silly to have an opinion that one of the better Mario games to be released in a long while is better than W101? I don't think that sounds too silly! I'm very much on the fence about w101's style of play, whereas Mario is.. well, Mario!

Hmmm...New Super Mario U, which is literally the least innovative game on the wii u over a new franchise and a title that had been anticipated for nearly a decade.

If you're ranking 2d mario's on innovation then you're simply "just doing it wrong", my friend. To innovate to a satisfactory degree would be to essentially create a new game. The last innovative 2d mario title was either smb3 or, of you count it, Yoshi's island. Smb3 for it's powerups, Yosho's island for it's methods of attack, switching up the formula for death, etc.

To discount a 2d mario based on lack of innovation is just silly as it's not intending to innovate. Including handhelds, how many have there been, over 20? How muchmore could you? It's about splid level design and fun factor.

I can think of a game that was not as innovative as it should've been, though. Hmm, let's see, the third entry of a series. Hmmmm.. should be plenty to switch up ina franchise's third iteration. Hmmm, what title could that be? Ah, i know, Pikmin 3!

A title "anticipated for a decade" who's innpvations include going back to the time system used previously and adding one or two different colors, lol.

You discount a game with over 20 sequels for no innovation, but don't for a game on it's third title! Ha! That is prime time for innpvation and its failure tp do so is what revents ot from being great. Its very much more of the same.

In conclusion, myself and the 30 or so people that bought w101 have summised that you are the one who is drunk! Good day, kind sir!

@Jazzer94
I agree ssb and mk is a tough duo to beat, but next yeat is zelda, xenoblade and starfox! Factor in 2d and 3d metroids are being worked on so that's possible as well. The first console sequel to the insanely good yoshis island as well as a fire emblem and smt crossover. Next year, in my opinion, matches this year in quality aaa releases, and far surpasses it in quantity. There was a loooooooot of dead space this year.

@arnoldlayne83

You know, every other year i would agree with you but a year that gives us Zelda, Xenoblade, a shin megami tensei / fire emblem crossover, as well as a halfway decent chance of monster hunter 4u, and an outside chance of a dragon quest x mmo hitting over here, is at worst a great year for adventure/rpg gamers like you and i, and at best a behemoth of a year

@letsgoretro What is a game without innovation? What's the point of buying NSMBU when there's NSLU, NSMB, NSMBW, and NSMB2 that are all cheaper?

pikmin 3 is full of innovation including being one of the few games that makes use out of the gamepad. It brought in 3 players at once, dlc, and brought a new type of pikmin that fundamentally changes gameplay strategy. NSMBU well...it has flying squirrels, other than that, it's just easier to pick up any other generic 2d platformer on an app store, eshop, or previous console. And for making fun of pikmin 3 as the name, you forgot that NSMBU literally only has a U at the end and nothing else different.

Also, judging a game by sales numbers is silly. By your logic, COD is far superior to Zelda.

@2sang

"What is a game without innovation?"

Well ,the quick answer would be "most games in an established series". Many of them just build off of the previous and add a couple things. The point I was making was to fault a game with 30 years of fairly consistent releases for not innovating doesn't make much sense. The innovating in that series was over long ago. It's all about level design. Why does everything need to innovate? It's about getting variety in an established genre you enjoy, nothing more. If they find ways to innovate, it's just a cherry on top.

As for Pikmin 3's innovations, an extra player being able to do more of the same, and doing more of the same with a different control scheme, are hardly innovations in my book. Adding in a type of pikmin is not even close to changing "fundamentals of gameplay", they're essentially power ups. The gameplay in Pikmin hasn't changed since the beginning. Which isn't that big of a deal in my eyes, but let's remember how this discussion started, lol. I'm just responding.

Pikmin 3 does not innovate hardly any more, if at all more, on it's series than NSMBU does on it's. Which is hard to imagine considering one is only the 3rd of a series, and the other is something like 30th.

Also, I didn't say anything about the name of the game, you misinterpreted something I wrote, apparently.

And, it's not all about sales. Definitely not. But the sales argument works better for "Because X game sold 8 million and Y game sold 2 million, it doesn't make X game better". When a game sells absolutely, incredibly abysmal like W101 did, it has to make you wonder. There are, of course, factors contributing to that. But let's not forget that there are titles that sell well on the console, so if a game is good, word of mouth alone usually gets sales to an atleast respectable level. With the W101, you're talking about a game that they didn't even bother pressing and shipping a reasonable amount of copies to give it a chance. There has to be a reason. My guess is that they were aware it was essentially library filler. A decent title necessary to round out the library, give it more depth, and make it so it's not all Mario. It helps the console in the long run, but nobody, even the creators, expected much from it. Hey, maybe it's the greatest game ever, I haven't played it, but I'm being forced to defend the position that considering NSMBU a must buy over w101 and pikmin is absolutely unthinkable, according to you, lol.

@bezerker99

While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I find this strange. This year and next year covers the following Nintendo series:

Mario
Zelda
Smash Bros.
Mario Kart
Mario Party
Yoshi
Kirby
Fire Emblem
Shin Megami Tensei
Xenoblade
Starfox
Confirmation of atleast early design considerations of both 2d and 3d Metroid
Donkey Kong Country
An outside shot of Dragon Quest X MMO stateside

So, with almost every one of Nintendo's major, consistent franchises being covered in this range, along with cool crossovers (SMT/FE & Hyrule Warriors), twists on existing properties like Mario Maker (which is kind of a throwback to Mario Paint if you ask me, an absolute classic) and even a new, unique IP in Splatoon, what could you possibly have been hoping to get that you didn't? Nintendo is kind of one of those "Know what you're gonna get" type of companies. You don't know the order they'll release, but you know what series will get an iteration and you pretty much know it'll be a quality entry in an established formula. When you bought your Wii U, what were you hoping for that isn't covered? Were you just hoping for an F Zero game or a Kid Icarus console game or something? I can't imagine a Nintendo fan not being excited by the current line up. I'm curious as to your answer.

I actually think it"s easy not to be excited just because you get everything that you anticipated, even splatoon was somewhat expected. It's like eating chicken every night, you can change up the way it's made it's still chicken and sometimes you just want beef.

Then for me I'm very much excited, my wallet is constantly empty. I'm getting HW next month, Bayo, Sonic Boom, SSB and Capt. Toad each following month and then Yoshi's Woolley World, kirdy rainbow curse, Zelda U, Xenoblade Chronicles X, splatoon, starfox, devil's Third, project guard. Not couting the games I already have like MK8, DKC:TF and even some third party like Batman and AC

Everything can change, but I'm never changing who I am

I really like that the it looks to be at least 1 retail game per month, prevents those large game droughts like the one we're currently in. I too are very excited for Nintendo's lineup and in addition to that the possibility they will add extra content to some of these games (e.g. new tracks in Mario Kart 8, new maps in Hyrule Warriors) makes me think I won't need another current gen console.
