I'm pretty sure it's 720p@60fps upscaled to 1080p.

Looking forward to: Mario Kart 8

Who cares? DK is going to be an excellent game, from the gameplay I've seen it's looking great roll on the 21st.

It's still HD though.

I'm not trying to say it looks bad or anything. I think this looks outstanding.

I'm just pointing out it's not 1080p.

At least it does upscale to 1080p

If you have a 1080p resolution TV it might be nice to know if the game will run native or not.

Side by side comparison.

Don't get me wrong, looks great and fun and all that and I will get it, but I still wish Retro didn't spend the last couple of years making another Wii U platformer.

Given how massive the file size is (for a Nintendo game mind you) I shouldn't be too surprised at the loading times, though I hope the digital version is a bit faster.

But if that's the trade-off for highly detailed environments and animation in HD and 60 FPS then so be it.

I wish you could install games on Wii U to avoid those types of load times.

So it may not be native 1080p but that's to be expected. It's like the Xbox 360, which does the same thing with all its games. The PS3 doesn't even bother to upscale its games to 1080p, leaving it in normal 720p (except with a few titles)

@Destinyman: I wasn't necessarily saying a Metroid game per se, just something more impressive than another a 2D platformer... Something like a Donky Kong 64 style game with an open 3D world would have peeked greater interest IMO. But like I said I am sure I will get this and probably enjoy it.

Remember: This game hasn't launched yet. The retail version may have faster loading times than the review copies do.

I highly doubt Nintendo would send out a worse version of the game to the people that are actually going to review it and give it a score. :P That'd be pretty stupid.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. For me it's more like, there are already quite some 2d platformers which happen to be really good. So there's no need really, but I know, sales and stuff blablabla.

sigh..
it's not like this is some MMORPG which you play for a REALLY long time... then recurring loading times would be a really big deal and super annoying, but i don't think it's that big a deal for this type of game
sure.. it's not ideal, but from what i've seen so far.. this game looks absolutely gorgeous and this is nothing that would keep me from looking forward to finally playing it

like i said... i'd have a problem with long loading times in online multiplayer games... games which you play for a really long time, but even there are exceptions... it's absolutely fine if games like LoL, RTS-games etc. take some time to load (you have to start a new game each time, play with and vs different people each time and wait for them to finish loading as well), but for MMORPG's, Hack 'n Slay games and so on it would be really annoying

but this is a singleplayer game (or local multiplayer), therefore... really not a big deal for me
i absolutely enjoyed Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and i'm sure it'll be the same for DKC: TF

I think people would have been less negative towards the loading times if that was the case to be honest.

I would assume most people look at loading times contra what you get out of the game (I usually do at least). And what you get here is a 2D platformer, a genre that is considered to be rather simplistic compared to, say, GTA. Therefore long loading times are to be expected in GTA but maybe not so much in DKC:TF.

I don't mind it though. One of the things I love about these games are that they don't pressure you with a time limit. So you can take as long as you want to explore every nook and cranny in each lovely level.

Looking forward to: Mario Kart 8
