Topic: Donkey Kong - Bring back the Kremlings!

I'm not sure where else to put this, so I guess I'll start here. Basically, I've been thinking a lot lately about how much I miss the Kremling Krew from the DK games. I don't understand why they were replaced, and I'm worried we'll never see them again. I honestly think the Kremlings are some of the most unique enemies of any video game franchise, and taking them away from DK games is akin to taking away the Koopas or Goombas from Mario. I also feel that K. Rool is terribly underused, when compared to Bowser, if you think about the amount of spin-off games Bowser has appeared in.

I feel the Kremlings have a lot of potential in terms of character (K. Rool in particular) and if Nintendo just brought them back or used them a bit more, more Nintendo fans would really get to know and love them. At the moment, it seems like they have just been forgotten about, and this is a real shame. So, what do you guys think? Should Nintendo bring them back for the next DK adventure on the Wii U or 3DS?

Don't the Kremlings belong to Rareware?

No. Just because Rare created them, doesn't mean they belong to that company. Every character that belongs to the Donkey Kong IP is owned by Nintendo.

I think the Kremlings might be joint ownership between Rare and Nintendo. But I could be wrong cause the Kremlings have appeared in other Nintendo games like Mario Super Sluggers for example.

If they're not already owned by rare, Retro's decided already they were Rare's thing. I'd actually like to see Bowser as the enemy in a DK game. He's similar enough to K Rool, and it'd be kind of funny to see him in a pirate, king, or mad scientist outfit. That would mean koopas and goombas in DK though, which really doesn't sound right...

Watch TheRunawayGuys' Let's Play of Mario Party 2. Out of the list, he is in a Pirate costume.

(Nintendo own the rights to the Kremlings. They appeared as recently in the 2007 game 'DK Jungle Climber' for the DS, which is a brilliant game I might add).

So, to get back on topic, would you guys like to see the Kremlings come back? The only reason I didn't buy Donkey Kong Country Returns is because the Kremlings weren't in it. It's just not the same...

Yes, I would like to see them returned too. I remember reading from Nintendo Power when one of the writers said that the Kremlings were boring and unoriginal and that the tikis were better.

That's just a ridiculous statement. There are so many different types of Kremlings, they are all unique with their own themes and personalities. They are some of the most diverse, unique and interesting villains ever to appear in a gaming franchise. The Tikis are bland and unimaginative by comparison. (In my opinion).

Especially when DKC2 came around, the Kremlings were different enough from the Koopas because they could have several themes, such as dressing up as pirates. King K. Rool was actually a more compelling villain than Bowser in ways.

Indeed. I feel that K. Rool is a very interesting and intriguing character. I feel that, in terms of character development, he actually has a lot more potential than Bowser. He's a little like Wario in that respect - he has a lot of personality that can be tapped into. Whilst I love Bowser, he is a little bland in the sense that he just doesn't have much personality. At least not compared to K. Rool or Wario, who are both very compelling characters.

The tikis are not bad. They have a great theme and I like how the tiki leaders resemble instruments, but the Kremlings are classic.

The Tikis are okay, but they can never fill the void left by the absence of the Kremlings. As I said, the Kremlings are just so diverse, and you'd have a hard task finding a more interesting group of villains. They're just awesome.

My viewpoint on this is that it doesn't really matter. I actually played DKC Returns before playing the original game, and I have to say that the enemies I'm facing aren't something I care too much about. They both have a nice charm to them that feels Nintendo, and that's all I really care about.

Best thread ever

I'm not sure how popular the Tikis are, but the general consensus from other DK fans I've spoken to, as well as comments and articles I've read about Donkey Kong Country Returns, seems to be that most fans prefer the Kremlings. However, obviously some people like the Tikis as well, so what about a game featuring both? The Tikis and Kremlings working together against DK and his friends would actually be pretty cool.
