Skywake said pretty much what I'm thinking (I think): Get it into the hands of the knowledgeable (hardcore?) gamer and we'll get the ball rolling. The first batch is already sold out anyways so those of us that preordered the WiiU might be the best salespeople for it.
Hey Grandma! Come check out how cool bowling looks on the new WiiU!!

'shut up kid and bring me those freakin' zombies...'
Grandma just got tons cooler.
Epic grandmas FTW.
But anyway back on topic. What Skywake and Magi said is absolutely true. It's devoted gamers like us who buy the systems first. Then other non-up-to-date people will follow suit from our example.

I was talking to my mom yesterday about Wii U (trying to show her why I want the system of course), and not surprisingly she thought it was the same as the Wii. I was expecting this since my mom doesn't know anything about video games, but it shows what the main public thinks about Wii U; as just another Wii or Wii upgrade.
Same thing when I explained it to my mom (54) and 4 of my coworkers who are over the age of 27 (but less then 36). The irony is they all know about the IPhone 5 months before its release and 3 of the same coworkers waited in line to upgrade their IPhone 4s to the newer model. And they thought Nintendo is trying to make extra cash by adding a touch screen to their system to make people go wild like its new.
A dying animal struggles, thrashes and howls in protest as its life torn from it. To see this in action, watch Animal Planet. The same thing happens when a video game is or isn't released. To see this in action, stay here.

Yep, I pretty much agree with everyone here. Not many people know about the system, but not many need to. It'll sell through its stock pretty easily with the audience it is currently targeting. Once that's about over, then we'll start seeing more on the system for the general public.
Still, I liked the video. Their comments may seem dumb to us, but in retrospect they definitely make sense.

Every other student at my old school probably doesn't even know what the word Wii U means because they play too much Xbox 360 and PS3.
