....... And that is why you don't just ask generic people on the street about video games. And Ninty should've named it something separate. ._.

Interesting and entertaining. Not to surprised that not many people knew about it. Nintendo seems to be focusing their advertisment on gamers more then non-gamers right now.

Kinect Animals, on the Wii...
lol at the guy who is an 'informed consumer' that grandma knew more about it than him.
It also seems like they only talked to people who were not into video games, oh, that was the point wasn't it?
It's also funny/sad how people didn't consider the Wii a game console...

I used to travel the stars, then I discovered Earth, and these incredibly addicting things called 'Video Games.'
And they said you couldn't buy happiness!

I agree, only people into video games knows the difference between the wii and wii u or even what it do besides having a U at the end.

A dying animal struggles, thrashes and howls in protest as its life torn from it. To see this in action, watch Animal Planet. The same thing happens when a video game is or isn't released. To see this in action, stay here.

That was a nice video

I'm not surprised people don't know about it. They have hardly advertised the thing at all outside of video game conventions. At least not over here. Once TV commercials start appearing, posters start to go up in stores etc. People will know about it.

There were a lot of ugly people in that video. Especially the man with the microphone. It really opened my eyes. There are truly more important things in life than game information.

Also IIRC in Japan when the 3DS was announced they asked people what games they were interested in and Japan said KIU was there LEAST favored game and Snake Eater was like in the top 5, yet in the end KIU sold more then Snake Eater 3D

This is the same strategy Nintendo has been using for a while now. Since after the first couple years of the Wii. I'm surprised people are surprised by this.
Nintendo lets the gamers know about their products first and then targets non-gamers before launch. If you tell a non-gamer about something that's not going to be out for a year, he's not going to wait in anticipation for a year, like a gamer would. The best time to target non-gamers is during the launch of the system. I'm sure once it's a couple weeks before launch leading up to it there will be a bunch of commercials on tv and stuff.
They're educating the people who care about the stuff now, that way when it comes up, we'll be able to help them out with information. Nintendo counts of word of mouth a lot, hence them not having an abundance of advertising.

Unless it's to point out people's ignorance, the "let's ask random people on the street" idea is basically always a terrible idea.

Sold. I'm totally going to take the rest of my undergraduate courses from Wii U. I wonder what campus life is like there.

lol...funny...I don't get the point of the video...I could go to random people and get the same results.
EDIT: finishes Yeah he's really talking to people who just don't care about gaming anymore. xD

Yeeeah, asking people if they know something about an interest they don't have is just a waste of internet. Absolutely every topic in the known universe could be swapped in place of Wii U in this video. Exact same results. Hey do you know about the WiiU? No? Nintendo is terrible at advertising to people who don't play video games!!! Hey, do you know about Canadian politics? No? Canada is terrible at advertising to Americans!!!

I think if Nintendo saw this they'd be pretty happy with the way people responded. I still don't get why they didn't call it the Wii 2 or Wii HD or why they didn't have a Wii U Sports ready for launch but other than that it's pretty good. Half of the people they talked to seemed to be interested in the idea of it and one even quoted pretty much the exact price it will be. Hell they all said they weren't into video games but then started asking about whether it would have Wii Fit, Just Dance and Wii Sports. Nintendo's not going to be losing any sleep over that.

You could have probably done the same thing with these people in September 2006 on the Wii and they'd know even less about the appeal of it. Try the same thing with the Vita and none of them would have even the faintest idea about it.
