Yes. If a company is failing, the CEO responsible needs to be booted out. Unfortunately, too many large companies seem too attached to those running them at the expense of both the company's financial health and the normal workers.
Also, I'm pretty sure none of you have thought of a replacement that could do better yet. Yamauchi isn't coming back. They'd fill the position with another person from inside NoJ, and everyone would hate the new guy because he isn't magic.
Sorry to be a stickler, but they don't call it "Nintendo of Japan." Since the Japanese division is the headquarters, they call it Nintendo Company Limited, or NCL.
Anyway, I respect Iwata's decision. He says that since he is responsible for Nintendo's shortcomings that he should be the one to try to fix the problem. I think that's more respectable than just passing the problem off to someone else.
