yes Nintendo (undeservedly) is put on the animation age guetto by lots of gamers..... you can't talk about how silly people are for caring about that stuff, but when you are a business you need to be aware of the prejudices of your audience and work around them....... stuff like the toy lunchbox look of the Game Cube was inexcusable.... anyone could have tell Nintendo that no one in the 13-19 year age bracket would want to play on a console that looks like a lunchbox...... same with the 3DS XL they have lost some sales because they only brought the 'fisher price' colours instead of a generally more accepted option such as black....... You have to wonder whether Nintendo have marketing people running focus groups for this stuff and if they do.... you have to wonder how they still have their jobs...

do you think Nintendo's "kiddy" image is largely based on the Animation Age Getto?

That might be part of it but I don't think that's the main reason. Take The Simpsons, South Park and Family Guy for example. All are cartoons and very popular with adults. A lot of those people watching those shows are probably the same people who say Nintendo is too "kiddy" and prefer playing games like CoD and GTA V on an Xbox or Playstation. No, I think the reason is a combination of the content of Nintendo games and a thinking that we can't like what we liked as a kid when we grow up.

As we grow up, we tend to go through a period where we think we're too old for the stuff we used to like as a kid. Thus, we start to not like things like Pixar movies, Disney World, the video games we played as a kid, etc and start thinking we have to start liking "adult" things instead. I went through that same phase and also thought Nintendo was too kiddy. That's when I bought a Playstation 2 and started playing games like GTA instead. It wasn't until I was old enough to have kids that I released that line of thinking is somewhat silly and instead embraced my inner child. That's when I started to get back into Nintendo and finally realized their games aren't necessarily "kiddy". They're just fun.

No Nintendo is not only for Kids, It's like Disney no one is too old for Disney.

What about stuff like Hannah Montana ? That sort of stuff is awful I cannot believe any adult would enjoy it.

It's okay that you don't know what you're talking about. Everybody makes mistakes.

Maybe it might be the kind of thing a paedophile might like.

I have seen it and it is dire.

Don't know why that was where your mind went, but whatever...

Why would anyone want to see an ultra realistic tubby Italian plummer crush ultra realistic tortoises? Though saying that, why would anyone want to ultra realistically shoot an ultra realistic Prostitute in the head? Remember games are merely toys to distract us from real life, it's just some people are desperate to mask our time wasting hobby as adult by adding horrific scenarios so to retain an illusion of maturity.

As long as you can deal with the real world when you need to, who cares what sort of entertainment you distract yourself with in your free time?

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

@Smirg have to admit you are correct there. Apparently most of my friends have gone that route and think Nintendo is kiddish, playstation for the win for "its" GTAs, FIFAs, God of War(s).
But it never happened to me. NEVER.
Don't get me wrong, I like anything videogaming irrespective of it's creators(assuming the game doesn't have adult content), but Nintendo's games have appealed to me so much. They're colorful and fun.
To answer the OP, I would say NO. They target all ages.

Fifa is different from the kiddie issue, lots of sports fan want to play with real team, athlets ect..... Mario Strikers can never be a replacement to Fifa for those fans.... that has nothing to do with bias against 'kiddie" stuff. Lack of licensed sport games is a different but also serious problem Nintendo needs to address

What's important to keep in mind is that while North America (and possibly Europe?) has a problem with Animation and 'cartoon' styles in terms of being taken seriously by a large demographic. Japan does not. And in fact thrives on that sort of thing. And Nintendo is a Japanese company that often takes a 'Japan first' approach to their product. Therefore its not their fault the rest of the world are a bunch of superficial boobs. And in fact should be commended for not succumbing to that kind of pressure to dilute their product.

@Duelwielding tbh i didn't mean what I think you did. Pratically everybody in my area is a football fan. So when they see 'ultrarealisitc' football it's not hard to guess where they'll go to. That's the main reason I added FIFA to the list.

I think Nintendo is closer to Disney

Pretty much this.

Just like I find e.g. Frozen to be a brilliant film for both adults & children I find e.g. Super Mario Bros. to be a brilliant game for both adults and children.
