Before you read please no fanboy comments I would like to see what you guys think. Also this is not a OMG NINTENDO ARE DOOOOOOOMED topic.

As you may or may not know. Today it was announced that the PS4 sold 250,000 in the UK alone in its first 48 hours of sale. That is more than what Nintendo have managed with the Wii U in its first year of sale in the UK at least. Now personally I do think it does reflect poorly a little on Nintendo. For a console that has been out a year and has been out sold by a new system that has only been out for less than a week in the UK.

I do think Nintendo can turn this around. I doubt they can outsell the PS4 in life time sales. But I do think they can reduce the gap a lot. Here is what I think Nintendo can do to shift more unites meaning more 3rd party support.

1, Lower the price of the basic model. When ASDA here in the Uk stopped stocking Wii U consoles earlier this year. They dropped the remaining stock of the basic model to £150 (about £$200) These sold out within a day or 2.

2, More exclusive 13+/18 rated games. When I had a Wii U. I really enjoyed ZombiU. The game was not perfect and had lots of room to improve. Nintendo seem to be in bed with Sega a lot these days maybe buy the Condemened licence from them and get this out. This type of game would make good use of the game pad.

3, More advertising. I honestly have not seen a Nintendo advert in months. Except for the one GAME did a few weeks back for the Zelda bundle but that was it. Nintendo need to advertise it more.

4, Promote the online side. The online is free unlike PS4 and XB1. When I had the Wii U playing online was pretty good. 2 friends of mine didn't believe me the Wii U had online multiplayer games.

5, Maybe a new model should come out. As I understand the Wii U has a blu-ray drive? But it can't play Blu-ray movies? I think Nintendo should slap in a blu-ray drive. To go along with Netflix/Lovefilm. Would be a cheap but great all in one system which would most likely damage XB1 sales.

6, Am probably going to get my head put on a poll here. But NO MORE MARIO!!!! well not for 2 or 3 years. When I look at Mario now I think Call Of Duty. They both have games on a yearly basis. They both end up doing the game think example Mario save princess or Mario defeat bowser/Hero saves world/Hero wins war. After Smash Bros and Mario Kart I think they should lock Mario away for 2 or 3 years.

So after all what I just said. It would end up looking a little like this I think.

£150 HD gaming console
Blu-ray playback with tv apps like netflix/lovefilm
Good 3rd party support
Free online gaming
Exclusives for all ages.

I am thinking of getting a Wii U again when Smash Bros and Mario Kart comes out but only if I can get the console cheap enough. If Nintendo could at least bring the basic down to £150 or bring a revised console out with blu-ray playback for £150. I would rush out and buy one for my bedroom to replace my PS3.

So what do you think? Again please if you can help is no fan boy comments.

Ignore the forum nazis.
In my opinion as long as Xbox and Playstation fail to market to kids and families, Nintendo will always have a chance to turn it around. The problem is up until this point they've been selling a system that is too expensive for their main demographic.
I personally don't think they need adult games, that's never been what they're about. But those games will come if the sales are there, and to get the sales they first need to go after the untapped market: kids.

it looks bad for the Wii U, not Nintendo, the Wii U would be remembered as a flop, but Nintendo has enough funds to survive a flop plus the success of the 3DS should be enough to keep their balance sheet in the black even if the profits are small. In the next generation they'll be back for another round. Now, if they don't learn from their mistakes with the Wii U and repeat them again in the next generation, then they may be in trouble.

as far as I know Nintendo never did two consecutive failing consoles(actually the only ones I know that failed are the Virtual Boy, never saw in real life, and GameCube, one of my favorite consoles)

goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn

I agree the advertising needs to be stepped up. When the Wii U launched in the UK I cant remember a single advert on the TV as Nintendo I assume tried to sell on brand name alone. They have improved it as I have seen mario 3d world adverts on the TV so I assume they are working to get the brand name out there and I have seen the sales in the UK sell out in a matter of minutes. Only today GAME sold out the £199 deluxe mario bundle in 10 minutes of the sale going live.

As for the £150 price point on console sales all the time, I have to wonder how much of a loss nintendo would be having to take a hit by. By all means have sales on old stock but making new consoles and banging them out at £150 could be damaging.

I love Nintendo, Sony & Microsoft - why? I am a true gamer.

Does it really look bad? Depends on where you look. Are you looking at a console screen? Or are you looking on the internet at a thread of people spouting opinions instead of playing the games they profess to love?

in short, play what you love, guys, and what anyone else has to say about it. :3
