Topic: Does anyone have an idea on a Fire Emblem timeline?

I know that Fire Emblem doesn't have an official timeline like zelda but does anyone have an idea? I hear people say that they take place in different dimensions or splits in the timeline, like zelda, but then why were Ike's ancestors in Awakening?

Edit: I made a mistake saying zelda didn't have a timeline, sorry!

Wait, I thought Zelda did have a timeline? I remember seeing something about it.

Anyway, Path of Radiance > Radiant Dawn. Is a good start. ... Somewhere.

My idea is that the games all take place on different continents, except of course for the ones like Radiant Dawn, or Path Of Radiance which are of course direct sequels.

Technically, Zelda doesn't have a timeline, but everyone kept asking Nintendo to release a timeline, so they just took the games and tried putting them in a logical order.

Has anyone played the Japan only Fire Emblem games that can help tie the timeline together?

  • FE2 is a direct sequel to FE1 (both NES, JP only). FE3 is a remake of both (SNES, JP only).
  • FE4 (Geneology of the Holy War, SNES, JP only) is unrelated in plot or setting. FE5 (Thracia 776, SNES, JP only) is then a "midquel" of FE4, taking place during a time gap in FE4.
  • FE6 (GBA, JP only) again is a new plot and setting. FE7 (GBA, just called Fire Emblem in US/EU) is a prequel to FE6.
  • FE8 (Sacred Stones, GBA) is another new plot and setting, and the only FE to date that has only one entry for its setting.
  • FE9 (Path of Radiance, Gamecube) is a new plot and setting, though implied to be set in the very distant past of FE1 in FE13.
  • FE10 (Radiant Dawn, Wii) is a direct sequel to FE9.
  • FE11 (Shadow Dragon, DS) is another remake of FE1.
  • FE12 (DS, JP only) is another remake of FE2.
  • FE13 (Awakening, 3DS) is a sequel to FE12, but taking place 1000 years later.

So there are several different narratives here.

Fire Emblem 1 and 2 take place on Akaneai. Then Fire Emblem 3, 11, and 12 are remakes of these two games. 11 is Shadow Dragon. The other four games are JP only and I don't know their subtitles. Fire Emblem: Awakening is FE13 and takes place on Akaneai 1000 years later, and the continent is renamed Ylisse.

Fire Emblem 9 and 10 are Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, respectively, for Gamecube and Wii. These take place on a different continent called Tellius. Though they have their own separate narrative, it is implied that they are set in the distant past of Awakening, as the character in Awakening Priam is said to be Ike's descendant.

Fire Emblem 6 and 7 for GBA are set on Elibe, again completely separated. 6 stars Roy, while 7 is a prequel set 20(?) years earlier starring Roy's father Eliwood and featuring some of the same characters.

FE8 for GBA is on its own. That's Sacred Stones, set on Magvel starring the twins Eirika and Ephraim.

4 and 5 are Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia 776. These are JP only, SNES, and set on the continent Judgral. These are often considered by "hardcore" fans to be the most challenging and complex games of the series. Definitely look up fan translated ROMS if you're really into the series.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

MrNinten

So that means Fire Emblem doesn't have a split timeline and some games follow into the same plot and setting, while others don't?

No. You could definitely argue that all of the games take place on the same planet, separated by time and oceans though. There's just 5 different settings that don't interact with the others in any way.

4* (SNES) <-> 5* (SNES)
6* (GBA) <- 7 (GBA)
8 (GBA)
9 (GCN) -> 10 (Wii)
11 (DS) -> 12* (DS) ----------------------------------------------------> 13 (3DS)

*= JP only. Excluding 1, 2, and 3 because they were remade into 11 and 12.
