All this time I thought we were speaking the same language of mutual game enthusiasm.

No, that idea went out the window when one of your bro's said "Aaaaaaand ignored" instead of going about things in a more mature way. From that moment I knew the standard of person I was dealing with and couldn't get myself out of the rut.

Take something like Wizardry 8 - its complicated but it isn't broken simplifying it would make it not as good but we will never get a game like that with say Skyrim quality graphics.

If it had Skyrim graphics then it would automatically gain traction for the masses - but the masses would be turned off by the complication and the critics who feel the need to review for the masses, would not recommend the game to the masses, then it wouldn't sell well enough and the studio would go out of business or their next game would be simplified to the point where Wizardry 8 would pale in the shadow of Wizadry Kindergarten.

I agree, if you like the original say Resident Evil and the way it controls more power to ya but making the controls better is better for most everyone.

I'm fond of the tank controls because I am fond of the game that for me surpasses any other RE game. It's a by-product. A game does not need spit and polish to be a classic, is what I'm saying but the FPS clowns don't understand. RE was made to the standard that it could be in the circumstances of it's time, but you play it now and I feel it's a classic. Not everyone does, but for the love of god if you are doing to dismiss it, don't do so because modern gaming has treated you to better controls and camera, what superficial nonsense. There's a whole lot more to games then just pressing buttons.

Speaking of which, Resident Evil 6 controls like a dream - the QTE's have never been done better, easy on the eye and all that. But it isn't a patch on Resident Evil 4 which came before it, nor frankly any of the other RE's. If you've played Resi 6 you know why that's the case - yet, I'm sure there are people on here that would say Resident Evil 6 is a better Resident Evil game then all the old ones, and they would say so because it is 'better to play.'

Utter nonsense.

I can't help but agree on the assisted aiming thing. When I found out that Goldeneye had this after I was not using it for like 100 hours I was ticked. The problem was I didn't want to use it but it was hard to keep up with the better players that did so I finally reluctantly turned the option on.

Aim assist was more or less necessary to be competitive on the N64 because of input limitations though. It had one analog stick and an inaccessible D-pad. The only way to keep up without aim assist was to put up with a clunky, punishing control scheme. Future controllers removed this problem by giving us a second analog stick. Great example of gameplay being polished and perfected, actually. Halo fixed every problem Goldeneye had.

I really shouldn't bite here, but oh well.

Franchise reception
Franchise sales

Resident Evil 6 is both the lowest selling and widely regarded as worst numbered entry in the entire series.

As I said before and you completely ignored, games are good when the gameplay is accessible AND the design is good. If it was a good enough philosophy for Shigeru Miyamoto, it's good enough for me too.

But it still isn't necessary if everybody is at the same disadvantage but I see it will make the tank controls more accessible for sure back in the golden days. I'll stick with Chuck mote controls for life though. Dual analog bites.

I'm just glad we live in an age where we have a choice. There's going to be 6 different controller inputs for Smash U, undoubtedly something that works for everyone.

That's a whole other story I'll gladly bring up that relates to how this topic is turning out.

Love the control options but aren't they dumbing down the move sets by mapping them to the gamepad and or bottom screen. I also think that's cheating in the same way as aim assist.

No, neither touch screen movesets nor aim assist are cheating.

They're both official control schemes included by the developers for the intended purpose of allowing players to play they want to play.

Cheating, is when someone gains an advantage via an unofficial means that's not available widely (or at all) to their competitors, such as the purposeful exploit of an unintended glitch, or enhanced performance via hacking, modding, etc.

I understand the desire to only play against opponents who are using your preferred playstyle (to truely test your skill), and think it'd be nice if a game included the option to filter opponents accordingly, but if it's not included, take it up with the developers, not with players who happen to choose the more accessible control option (which is completely legal, and easily available to all players).

It's your own choice to tie one arm behind your back to give yourself a tougher challenge, don't get mad at your opponent for not doing the same.

Utterly ridiculous.

You and him are the most ridiculous people on this forum, bar none.

What you and him have essentially said in this thread from start to finish is that no older games can ever be deemed good, successful, or worthy of anyone's time. The only games worth playing are the ones that are polished and perfected in every single way. The very idea that games were at some point experimenting with things, taking risks with limited technology and assets, is nothing more than that, an experimentation, because according to you the real games and the real reasons for games are right here in recent history. Forefathers paving the way for truly supreme games to come out in the future and then burying the remnants deep underground never to be seen or regarded to ever again. You have no idea how ridiculous a notion that is - imagine if your theory applied to cars - classic cars, Jaguar's, Mercs etc, would have no place, just give me a KIA!

And if, I somehow doubt, you didn't mean anything of the sort, we can put that down to your general intellects being so insufficient that you cannot explain yourselves properly - which, I'm sure isn't a coincidence, could be linked to the geographical locations of yourselves. Which is a shame, since most people in your respective places are actually quite impressive on here.

You like jumping to extreme conclusions don't you, when it has been you who has been very dismissive for the most part.

On the Resident Evil 1 vs Resident Evil 4 control discussion. I would argue that those are in fact two different kinds of games. And trying to argue which's control scheme is 'better' is folly. And has nothing to do with 'old' vs 'modern' game design argument.

I can't understand what this argument is actually about, but hey, this thread reminded me that I didn't have any Deus Ex games, which I've luckily now remedied. Hope they're good.

Good stuff. Fight more often, ya'll. If anybody is curious, all the games are $15 on the Humble Bundle until tomorrow at noon.

Just the first one. I'm only a few hours in but I'm really enjoying it thusfar. The gameplay is solid and so is the plot.
