Topic: Does anyone else feel this way about Deus Ex

So i just rounded out the main retail Wii U games i wanted with Deus Ex. I tried it when i had Playstation Plus because i got it for free ,and was really into it. I wanted to give it a second chance on Wii U ,and now i'm really getting into it.

The thing is as i've been playing i get a major Perfect Dark feeling. Anyone else get that vibe from the game? Its no shape a bad thing at all just interesting.

Current Switch Games: Super Mario Odyssey, Legend of Zelda BoTW, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon 2, Resident Evil Revelations Collection, Doom, Skyrim, Rogue Trooper, Volgarr the Viking, Blaster Master Zero, Elliot Quest, and Rive

Sadly, I never got to play Perfect Dark, but I just started Deus Ex myself and I totally get a Fallout 3/Metal Gear Solid feel with an atmosphere like Blade Runner or Robo Cop. If it does feel like Perfect Dark maybe I should find a way play it because I'm liking Deus Ex as well. I heard the Xbox 360 one wasn't very good though, only the N64 one.

I never played Pefect Dark as much as I should have unlike it's spiritual predecessor Goldeneye 007, so I can't comment there. What I will say is that DE:HR ranks in the top of my WiiU collection. Rarely does a game make me want to revisit it, but I'll happily replay DE:HR.

Deus Ex is an actually good game, so no.

@R_Champ - the 360 version was far and away a technical improvement. It is by no means worse. But you can polish a turd...

Perfect Dark is an amazing FPS, it still has more depth in its single player campaign, and in local multiplayer, than most FPS's today. In someways it was superior to Goldeneye 007, my only gripes against the game was the cheesy storyline in the second half of the campaign and that the game was really pushing the N64 to its brink, capabilities wise, it showed.

Perfect Dark Zero on the other hand was a great indication of how much charm and talent Rare had lost by the mid 2000's.

I'm pretty sure R_Champs' not stupid enough to bring up Perfect Dark Zero in polite conversation, especially when an actual 360 version of Perfect Dark exists.

This game is on my to get list along with about 6 more. If it's anything like Perfect Dark then it will get shoot up to the top of that list. I've heard nothing but good things from this game though. Really looking forward to playing it someday.

I must of put in about 200 hours into PD back in the day! Rare at it's finest!

It's kinda weird being the N64 dude that I never actually played the N64 FPS (all 3 of them that weren't ports...)

I never played Perfect Dark. I played alot of Banjo Tooie FPS and Golden Eye, though. I see Deus Ex of being more like Splintercell and Metal Gear type of game. I played through it 2 times, before I felt like I had played it enough.

I still think the original Deus Ex is the best one. (Even with it being old in some respects). Seems like it has lost something.

the setting is pretty similar to perfect dark with the futuristic city setting but if i was going to describe the game to someone who had never played it id call it a mix of metal gear solid / fallout.

put it on.

It is a wonderful game and an amazing port to the WiiU... we got all the best from the original, plus revisited boss battles (they were the achille's heel of the original game) and I also had good fun replaying the game with the developers commentary....

I love the "free will" implemented in to the game, you can really act as you want, and every time I get new ideas how to accomplish the same mission...

It really deserved to sell better than it did on the console...

The original is a bona-fide classic. HR is your typical 'higher quality, easier to play, more options, prettier' series entrant that as you say lacks a little something.

Funnily enough you can say the same for the Thief reboot, made by the same people.

Except the Thief Reboot was an actually bad game that missed the mark by a wide margin. What it's "missing" is polish.

Deus Ex is the same game but better in every way thanks to its streamlining of previously inanely obtuse mechanics. What it's "missing" is a needlessly high bar to vault over in order to actually enjoy the game.

It's like how some people say that "BioShock sucks because it's not System Shock" as if System Shock was ever some holy grail of gaming and not a flawed game filled with needlessly complicated and unbalanced mechanics and cheap jumpscares. Maybe they just don't like BioShock because now that everybody can get into it, there's nothing to hide the fact that they were bad games to begin with?

Dumbed down and made similar to other things that already exist is not better.

Deus Ex and Perfect Dark are similar in that they are both Cyberpunk worlds. There really aren't that many more similarities. Apparently they both came out in 2000, so that's kind of an interesting coincidence. But Cyberpunk games are a dime a dozen, and they're all influenced by Bladerunner and Neuromancer.

I'm going to acknowledge your (non)existance just this once: Dumbing down and streamlining are not the same thing, no matter how much people (you especially) want to believe that. Making things useable to the average person without sacrificing any necessary options is how you streamline. Dumbing down is when you actively remove necessary features or systems simply because you're afraid that some people might not get it. That doesn't happen as often as people (you especially) like to say.

Whenever people tell me a game has been dumbed down, my first thought is "oh good, so worst case its mechanics are slightly less rewarding for people who put 50+ hours into the game but normal human beings can enjoy it".

Also, Mass Effect 1's RPG elements were still terrible sell-out mainstream versions of what Bioware had done in the past that made the game more awkward than necessary but minimized what made those elements work, which is why Mass Effect 2 is a better game because it didn't try too hard to be an RPG. If anything, compare ME2 and ME3 if you want to see the difference between "selling out" and selling out.

Also, you should feel bad if you complained about Casual mode being an option in FE: Awakening.

Also, Dark Souls' still does an atrocious job at getting people to enjoy Dark Souls (I say this as a fan).

also I Wanna Be The Guy is still a terrible game and you are not an impressive human being just because you had patience for a terrible video game

Like a lot of the customisation that made it a FPRPS and allowed such a variety of ways to play through the game? Where a piece of scenery could be the key to a new area? The diversity of npcs whether they were important or not? I think it the series has lost a lot.
