I got my Wii U @ launch and I have played my wii u via TV set for about 15 minutes. I always play on the gamepad. I will not even purchase a game that does not support off-tv play. I just purchased a ps4 and vita a couple of weeks ago just so I could play off-tv.
Yep Nintendo innovates. They sold me a WiiU just based on the idea of off-tv play. Though the argument could be made that Sony did it first with PSP and PS3 they just did not do it very good.
I probably will this weekend at my GF's. Her TV is wall mounted and it's a pain in the butt to plug in the HDMI cable.....
I've found myself enjoying the Gamepad as a couch companion- it's better to browse on than my Samsung Galaxy Tab, which hasn't been turned on in three months........
I agree, the gamepad is very accommodating when it comes to surfing youtube, etc,........well, I'm going to download Tropical Freeze tonight, gamepad only, it should be a solid experience.
I'm surprised so many people play mostly on the Game Pad! I never expected this!!
Me personally, if there's something good I want to watch on TV, I will do the Game Pad. But if not, I have to be playing on the TV, mainly because my TV has really awesome HD surround sound for some reason! I really get into the game when I turn the sound up a good bit on my TV!!!

The only time I play exclusively on the Gamepad is if someone else in the family is watching TV. Besides that, I prefer to play on the TV due to it being a bigger screen.
