Alrighty then.

I don't understand why you would use $60 vs $10 games.

Least the WiiU will have the best of both worlds.

[/div]

[/div]

There's signs that some of the iOS publishers (2K, Square Enix) are keen to start pushing up the price of iOS games too. I think over the next 12-24 months there will be a few games selling well at $30 or even $40.

In the meantime, there are plenty of full retail games that are being released on iOS at that $10 price point. Civilization, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy Tactics, The Bard's Tale, Soul Calibur - these are (or were) all retail games.

[/div]

And there are retail games on the Wii and Wii U that cost less than $10. They're called Virtual Console games :P

There's thousands of iOS games that are free?

Once again, we're talking about the premium price point here, and specifically to point out that most people are going to end up spending more money on Wii U than iPad, even if they have both.

Someone up there mentioned the iPad.

That is exactly what this thing is going to be compared to. it's going to be an "WiiPad" for the average consumer.

Given Google, Amazon and Microsoft have all failed to figure out how to get people to buy anything other than an iPad, I think it's sweet that people think Nintendo can.

[/div]

Wouldnt say they failed. The Kindle Fire is wildly popular and we havent gotten to see Microsofts new Windows 8 tablet.

Of course they haven't failed. And the Wii U is a completely different product anyway. Although the controller is a tablet it has nothing to do with the iPad market. It's a living room console and all signs look as it will be successful. 100 million people bought Wii they play Mario on it together ad s family they weigh themselves on Wii Fit and they have fun with just dance in groups. IPad is irrelevant to the discussion. Its bad enough when people make comparisons with the handheld market but here its really laughable.

The "signs are good?" What signs? The ones you made up in your head?

The iPad would not be relevant if people had unlimited disposable income and could own every toy in the world. They can't. People will buy the iPad and not bother with a home console.

There goes that 100 million number.

Well, the thing about games consoles - is that ANYTHING can happen.

Today's 'No.1' could easily become tommorow's 'last place'. Both Nintendo and Sony have experienced highs and lows - but what's most important is if they are still capable of providing great gaming experiences; which thankfully is still the case (RIP SEGA).

As for Wii U? In my opinion, I think it will do very well. It has the Nintendo name (so that's fanboys like me catered for), an innovative hook, and a (likely) low price. Contrary to what buffoons like Michael Pachter think, I don't belive Nintendo has 'lost' its 'casual' audience to iOS/Android - people can be swayed by anything, given the right marketing. Who's to say the 'casuals' won't return to Nintendo? In 2012, there has been a slump in tablet/smartphone game profits - and though I'm not suddenly going to say that means failure is on the horizon - it just means that nothing is infallable regarding the latest fad (and I don't mean that in a derogatory sense).

One thing's for sure though; the games industry is changing - and I think Nintendo relises that (hence all that 'innovation'). Will the Wii U be as popular as the Wii? I dunno...but then again, how many people thought the Wii and DS were going to be as big as they were?

@LollipopChoSaw Why are you saying the iPad is a competitor for Wii U? That doesn't really make sense. It isn't a home console and it isn't a dedicated gaming machine. The Wii U controller is a tablet with buttons basically, but that doesn't put it in the same classification as an iPad. Not at all. The iPad is a tablet computer.

As for the "premium games" thing, I'm confused. You're saying that in the long run, an iPad will be less expensive than a Wii U, right? Well, you are comparing some kind of blown up mini game to a retail game. I would rather spend $60 on a retail game that will last me for a while as opposed to a $10 Angry Birds/Temple Run/Infinity Blade/Fruit Ninja. To the people who would rather buy those $10 games, more power to them.

A person earns a wage of $1000/ week. After financial responsibilities, they're left with $200/week. Now, assuming they have families, friends and other interests they might be left with $50-$100/ week discretionary spend for toys and gadgets.

So yes, the Wii is competing for the same dollars the iPad is. There will be people that don't feel the need to buy an dedicated games console when the iPad does games so well.

Well, you are comparing some kind of blown up mini game to a retail game.

No, I am comparing iPad games to retail games. most of those games in the list of 72 games I posted - not even close to being exhaustive - are not "blown up mini games."

The only people that claim that that is all that is on iPad are the people who don't have a clue what is actually on the iPad.

I bet I know what's going to come next. "None of those games interest me!" or something to that effect. Let's deal with that preemptively - the millions of people happily playing those nice big chunky games on iPad really don't care that you don't want them.

In that case, you're saying that a Hershey's chocolate bar is competition for the iPad. It's competing for the same dollars the iPad is. Same with a ton of other things cheaper than an iPad.

As for the $50-$100 to spend on toys and gadgets, wouldn't buying a Wii U since it has a cheaper base cost make more sense? We don't know how much the Wii U will be just yet, but I can guarantee that it won't be $599.99. Even so, they don't have to buy either gadget. They could buy a jar of monkeys if they didn't want to buy a dedicated gaming console or a tablet computer.

iPad games versus games on a dedicated gaming system is a matter of opinion. People aren't going to sit here and read these posts saying you're right or I am, they're going to play their games. If you actually read my post though, I did say if they wanted those games, "more power to them." Personally though, I would rather play a retail game for a dedicated gaming system over an iPad game. And yes, it is because of the buttons. I prefer buttons. I don't have anything against touchscreen games, but I would like a button with my touchscreen thank you very much. I HAVE tried playing iPad games and I feel that if I had buttons, I would have more control. MY OPINION.

You could give me a cell phone from the early 2000's with just the ability to talk and no texting and i'd be perfectly happy.
All of these apps at the palm of your finger tips, the ability to browse the internet and the like takes the magic out of the actual things(aka a computer for ex) that were 'designed' to do those things. But to each their own, I'm just old school nor do i care about these main stream technologically advancy' shmancy' electronic devices. Perhaps I'm being a bit close minded, I'm sure the I-pad is great but I'm just not interested in it.

There are so many people nowadays, teenagers especially that are addicted to their I-Phones.....It's pretty annoying when you have a conversation with somebody and half way through it their face is smack dab right in their cell phone as if they're lost in time and they don't even acknowledge that you're there. lol

You're not the only one! I do have a phone...but it's a primitive 12+ year old Nokia that I only use for emergancy calls. Pretty much the only thing I keep up with tech-wise are videogames.

@LordWiiU Yeah it's a bit strange when you think about it I mean isn't it more fun to actually play a game then it is to watch someone via a youtube video. I can understand if you're in the same room watching a friend play and helping each other out but this bloke looks at his phone and laptop for hours every day of the week. I always tell him 'I'm gonna smack that iphone over ya head' sometimes I hide it in stupid places and watch him panic because he needs his junky fix :)
