Topic: Do you think Nintendo will dump the Wii U for NX

They said it wouldn't replace the Wii U but when the DS was coming out they said it wouldn't replace Game boy advance but look at what happened.....

Nintendo didn't dump the GBA as fast as people think. Didn't Mother 3 come out in 2006 or something?

^^This^^. They've already said that they'd continue to support the Wii U after the NX is released, and I'm sure they will, though the titles most likely won't be anything big.

So in other words we'll support the Wiiu kind of with crappy games. But if you want the real heavy hitters go for the NX.

We got Mother freaking 3 after the DS came out... Don't let the Mother 3 fanboys get out of their caves, they're gonna cook you for suggesting that, wether you meant it or not.

Wikipedia says that Nintendo of America discontinued the GBA in 2008 while in Japan it was discontinued in 2006... so... Yeah. They did support it. I don't like people bashing on stuff without doing their research first and just hearing, "dur hur ds third pillar wii u third pillar illuminati confirmed" and repeating it over and over. The GBA Micro was released after the DS was out too.

In the same way the Wii was "supported" after the Wii U was released, maybe. But if it's a home console, I'm guessing they'll drop the Wii U as fast as they can. Maybe do a final price drop or remodel without the gamepad.

Pssh. That's different. I don't remember Nintendo saying they'd support the Wii after the Wii U came out. I know Reggie falsely said the Wii had a long life ahead of itself but I don't remember that. NX is a third pillar not a replacement. It may end up as one, but as of now it is a third pillar. Co-existing alongside the other 2.

What does the Wii get though?/ More shovelware and Just Dance games?

That's been my thought the whole time. I wouldn't be surprised too if they port Zelda U to the NX as well like they did with Twilight Princess.

Dump their console for a handheld? I doubt it.

Honestly that would be the smartest move for Nintendo to make.

When people say that Nintendo won't support the Wii U with big games when NX comes out, I just want to remind them that the 3DS launched in Spring 2011 and Pokemon Black and White 2 (DS games) released in Fall 2012.

Also, while it's not Nintendo, the PS3 and 360 still got a fair amount of support after the launches of the PS4 and One.

As they are making money out of the Wii U it really isn't

@shaneoh: Basically what Lz said, Nintendo has always done better handheld wise then home console wise. They get the third party support for their handhelds while their home consoles get very little. I know people who will take a PS or an Xbox over a Nintendo home console anyday but enjoy the handhelds.

Yeah it makes money but how profitable is the Wii U. It's like Sony with the Vita.

You can bet they'll be dumping the Wii U as soon as they can. Probably not immediately, but definitely within a year or two.

I think for the wii u unfortunately Nintendo in the grand scheme of things are clearly phasing out the wii u or at least delegating their main resources for the NX. I owned and loved my wii u but after E3 it was clear Nintendo had little to no future plans for the wii u besides what we already knew. Case in point I traded my wii u everything in for the ps4. Now I'm not telling/suggesting people to follow suit. For Myself, I saw too many red flag and sadly felt justified in my decision. Still love Nintendo but I'lll try it again with the NX.
