Topic: Do you think Nintendo regrets selling their 49% of RARE to Microsoft?

Under Nintendo's care the company would have continued to succeed, but under the Microsoft guidance it has shrunk and these days only are permitted to do casual games for the Kinect peripheral. None of the original RARE guys even stuck around it was so bad.

On a similar note, I heard Activision is up for sell, Nintendo should invest in them!

Microsoft bought 51% of Rare. What the hell was Nintendo to do? The question is, does Rare regret getting greedy and switching to microsoft? The Mario in their Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts trailer makes me think they do.

People always say that Rare's talent left, which is partially true, but that's not to say that all of the talent left. Also, half the talent that Rare had when they were with Nintendo was Nintendo. So, if they were still with Nintendo today, they would be doing better because they'd have Nintendo's help. Nintendo probably would be putting the assets that they are into Retro now into Rare if they were still with them.

That's business for you. I think Nintendo misses Rare as much as we do and yes Rare did lose some of its amazing talent but that doesn't mean their games sucked. Viva Pinata and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts were still fun games and it saddens me that Microsoft is not even using any more of their amazing IPs. If Rare were still with Nintendo I bet they'll still be making fun games.

Just imagine the Wii with it's own Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, etc. All the old Rare games on the virtual console. The games that made the n64 as awesome as it was. An actual remake of Goldeneye from the n64 with classic gameplay, levels and new Wii controls.

Perfect Dark would've given the Wii it's exclusive, mature first person shooter that it was missing. Nintendo wouldn't have rushed them and would have given them advice making a much better game than Perfect Dark Zero.

The Wii would have been an entirely different system had Rare still been with them. At least, that's how I feel.

There's now way Nintendo would share a second party developer with a competitor. Especially when the competitor was the majority stock holder. I'm sure that was the deciding factor on letting them go.

I remember people at Rare not liking Nintendo's policies. Nintendo was very strict with Rare- wanting their games to be developed just like Nintendo would. Something of that sorts. I wouldn't blame either- Nintendo doesn't want anyone screwing their IPs and Rare's folks presumably did not like the strictness and the controlling attitude Nintendo had.

In an interview, you can also read up on Nintendo's strictness with Retro Studios.

No, nobody is there from the N64 days and what games rare has been making.

No. I think the Wii did pretty well without Rare. I must admit, it would be nice to have Rare's games on the VC though.

I think it would have been nice to be able to have Perfect Dark on the Virtual Console, but aside from that, I can't say Nintendo should regret selling Rare. In all honesty, I never got into Banjo Kazooie, Conker, or anything else that wasn't Goldeneye from them. I, actually, really want PDZero because I haven't played it before

Be kind to yourself and to others.

Rare didn't only make N64 games for Nintendo. They also made a ton of great NES, SNES and Game Boy games as well. I'd love to see R.C. Pro Am 1 and 2, the Killer Instinct series, Battletoads, and Snake Rattle 'n' Roll on the VC, just to name a few.

It's not worth it. Everything cool from the previous Perfect Dark is gone, the AI is totally broken, the cover mechanic isn't really helpful, and I remember you move kinda slow, but I guess that's because I had to crouch a lot because said cover mechanic was less helpful. It was kinda fun in MP, but I still prefer the XBLA Perfect Dark more.

PDZ is on sale for $5 on xbla along with kameo. Both are decent launch games that were rushed out and still needed a year or so.

Nintendo probably regrets the loss of the ip. And rare was wanning before the deal anx even if they would have stayed with nintendo i think alot of people would have still left. Beyond thqt rare is probably the most successful its ever been. They just ame off of two successful and decent games and have been staffing up lately and all there fo us is on the two next gen games they have as well qs avatar clothes.

Im only guessing but if rare would have stayed where they were i think they may have been put in the same situation as sillcon knoghts.

Sorry, but Kameo wasn't so rushed. Maybe it needed some months to look more decent, but is still one of the best platformers you can find in Xbox 360.

isn't that like saying Battalion Wars 2 is one of the best RTS games you can find on Wii?

I'd imagine so. They'd be able to still publish Banjo-Kazooie games, and I believe nintendo said they aren't a huge company so when they need people to work on their games, the go to other companies and a company you own 49% of would help with that.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Havent really played it yet. Just got tl the hub world.

I wish that nintendo would use that budget to invezt in new studios and acquiring others. Sony benefitted alot from creating new studios and microsoft seems to be doing the same.
