Maybe or maybe not.
Just please keep this stuff away from Smash Bros.
I'm pretty sure they already said Smash Bros. would use it.
rom what I understand, it will basically be an interactive memory card. You can transfer high scores, take you Mii, etc. through the figures. If they unlock any sort of extras, it probably will only be costumes.
What they could do, is make the software free, but you need to buy figures, that way you don't buy a game for $20, then go figures. You don't have to buy them for Pokemon Rumble U. It's still cool, though, IMO.
People have been wanting an NFC type system, since the 90's.

I think either its use in Smash Bros and other big releases won't be too big or this stuff will partially replace DLC. The latter could be a great idea actually, like a Mario one unlocks DLC in Mario games (maybe not every new Mario because of the huge gap in quantity between Mario and other Nintendo IP) so the games have minimal to none paid DLC. That could be really cool and it would basically mean you have a really good reason to get the main NFC game if you want DLC in other games. Undecided if that would evil or genius or both.
They could even have a free to play gamethat uses the figures. Kinda like Rusty'e Real Deal Baseball, except you buy the figures, and they're still compatible with anythingelse. If Nintendo does it right, they could make this a huge feature of the system, and a reason to buy one. That's what I think, anyway...
I don;t understand why Disney and Activision aren't using the NFC reader on the GamePad, though. It might be something proprietary.
Also, they plan on allowing you to scan your credit card, and they'll probably use it for other things. Sony is making a pair of headphones that use NFC. Just think if Nintendo created a Wii U headset that had NFC, then you could pair it through the GamePad. Then there's always their QoL thing.

There is a skylanders for Wii U right? So maybe parents will decide to buy a Wii U for their kids rather than an Xbox or Playstation. Reason being they can then have skylanders and Nintendo figurines and it's a more kid-friendly platform anyway.
Re: Pokemon: They could have an app on Wii U that when you use a Pokemon figurine on it, it connects with your copy of Pokemon on 3DS and unlocks items or new pokemon or new areas or whatever. Call it "Pokedex upload station" or something. That way, they don't have to make a whole new Wii U Pokemon game, but can still take advantage of the figurines.

It is not a great idea the only way to get the complete game becomes buying loads of plastic junk. (Might be ok if you are 5 or 6 years old).

well your opinions are always terrible and you're probably going to try to bomb someone someday for daring to be capitalist in video gaming, so I don't care
Maybe. The figure market is ripe for the taking. With only 2 competitors in the game, a giant like Nintendo could steal it in an instant. People who buy skylanders or Disney infinity on Nintendo platforms will move to the much cooler Nintendo figures.

Yes it very well could. It's a joke that nintendo haven't made a nfc game yet, even though it was a highlight feature of the wii u during e3 2012.
Well there was Pokemon Rumble U... I still need to find somewhere that sells those figures
...And I think we found the punch line...
So I finally played Pokemon Rumble U... what is so bad about it? From my understanding it may not be as good as the other 2 Pokemon Rumble games but I am having fun
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.

I have to agree with unrandomsam on this one...not everyone has the closet space or infinite amount of cash required to buy 100's-1,000's of figurines to receive a complete game so no it wouldn't be genius it would be pure evil.

It all depends on your point of view. Like Skylanders (the first one at least) the whole game could be completed with just the Basic Pack. Having more characters of different types gave you access to special areas that were not required for the main story. I believe the "DLC" the figures would unlock would be like these extra areas. Maybe having a Mario Figure would give you access to a special level or a time attack mode. Maybe they could even offer the DLC on the eShop for a price where in the long run having the figure would be cheaper... just an idea

Hopefully the new figures won't look as bad as the rumble U figurines, although they will be fun to collect somewhere in the future just because they look so primitive. I never played Rumble U or even watched a gameplay, but I do know there weren't many figures made and I've never seen them in any store I've been in, so they may have well never have existed if you ask me. I bet it will be implemented better in the stadium/home console pokemon series. They could connect x/y to the wii u as well, which might mean that the wii u might sell better than boxed cancer.

Why do people say this. We have no idea how it will be used in Smash Bros.
It's just like the people who say Nintendo hates Youtubers because of the Affiliate program that has absolutely zero details announced for it.
I rather not see it at all to be completely honest with you.
If its used for DLC like @kkslider5552000 suggested then that's fine I guess because its not a must to play the game.
Four more months until Bayonetta 2.

The figures were exclusive to GameStop and they didn't get much table space. GameStop also never re-supplied so there were a limited number out there. Second Hand figures are way to expensive. I can't find anywhere selling them for a good price. There were a total of 24, I think, which isn't bad for a figure series (compared to Infinity and Skylanders)
