One of my Wii U friends said on Miiverse that he would love it if Next Level Games (Luigi's Mansion 2 devs) made Super Mario Sunshine 2. I think it would be a great idea since the Wii U could have 2 3D Mario platformers not far apart from each other.

I'd prefer there not be a direct sequel to Sunshine personally. Not that I didn't like the game, but I'd rather they introduce something new and exciting, like the first Galaxy game was in 2007.
...but if it were going to be made anyway, I guess these guys would do a good job. D:

That alone makes it a bad idea. With that said, Sunshine hasn't gotten the same appreciation Luigi's Mansion has garnered in the last few years, it wouldn't give the same reaction.

First of all 3D Mario platformers take 2-3 years to make. Second, making 3D Mario platformers is Ninrendo EAD's job, not Next Level games. But I would like a Sunshine sequel on Wii U/3DS.
Games I'm playing currently: Legend of Zelda: A Link Betweeen Worlds, Tearaway
Games I'm excited for: Super Mario 3D World, Super Smash Bros. 4, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8

Of all the Mario games to revive sunshine would be at the bottom of the list for me personally, I think a brand new 3D Mario game for wii u would help give it its own identity to the console itself.
Hmm. While I wouldn't object to a Sunshine 2, despite Sunshne being my least favorite 3D Mario title, I do not think NLG would develop it. I personally think they are working on Mario Strikers 3 for Wii U though.

I wouldn't mind a sunshine 2 at all! I love next level games (especially for Mario Strikers Charged)
It was the most challenging of the 4 main 3D mario games (64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2) in terms of beating it 100%
I'm not sure if 3D land really counts but I haven't played it so I can't say
The blue coins made the game especially challenging, but the other games did not provide a challenge like that. It was also my favorite of all of the games I listed! The galaxy games were fun but I beat them both 100% in less than a week after each launch. Mario 64 was very very fun for me as a kid, however, and I still play it occasionally today. Mario Sunshine didn't have the same appeal as 64 but it did have a higher difficulty which kept me hooked for the time I was playing it and it took a while to beat.
Why a Sunshine game?
Do you really want a whole game of Mario squirting water again?
There somethings I did like about Sunshine, but I think Nintendo can do better, stop giving into their lazy, dated, gameplay. Nintendo used to be known to be all about gameplay, but now they can't even do that right

No. I don't dislike Mario Sunshine, but I think the original concept has been pretty much entirely explored and that Isle Delfino has no more room for 'levels' or 'new ideas'. A remake in the style of Mario 64 DS would be interesting, but what I really want to see is a game in the same general style with a different theme.
Like say, a location which you explore different parts of with a FLUDD style item and the same sort of gameplay. My previous idea was that an 'ice' based equivalent to Sunshine with a 'ski resort' theme could be interesting way to go, but you don't even need a holiday theme in a possible 'spiritual successor'/sequel.
