Not much is explained about the villager in animal Crossing about his back story.Technically he can't speak either and why is he the only human in his village. It's things like that that make me wonder if it would be a good idea to create lore in Animal crossing. Also the intro would be completely different from the other games.Say Tom Nook or Blathers starts selling short history books that you could piece together gradually and then stuff would make more sense and then that makes the game more interesting.I have a completely original plot written down if you guys or gals want to read it.
In the little town with a big City were many Animals. Some big and small and some many breeds and species. Many also come and go.The Mayor of Bellfast had grown Too old to have the energy to run his town for much longer but he had no one to turn to.Isabelle and the two Pigeon sisters grew worried for the Town and City's Future. With Tortimer the Mayor being a Tortoise he lived for many more years than any other Animal could. No other tortoise were around to take over for knowledge to be passed down to.Suddenly the observatory noticed something in the sky was falling. It crashed into the ocean and it washed up onto the seashore not long after.Everyone in the town ran towards the shore and the Ship opened up with an unconscious being inside of it.The being woke up and he/she looked puzzled and didn't know where it came from or where it was or who it was.The Being couldn't speak due to shock.
The Animals decided to welcome him/her to their Village.Tom Nook told the being that he/she can work for him to get to know his/her surroundings.Tom gave the being a house in return for future labour for helping making sales with the animals instead of Nook doing it himself. This became a part time job for the being.A few years have passed and Tortimer is on his last legs. Tortimer decides that the only Being in town was the only suitable heir. Tortimer Greeted the Being on New Year's Eve and Said there's a Present in the Mail waiting for you.Don't open it till New Year's Beginning. So the Being waited with everyone else to watch the Fire works as the New Year came in and then the Being went to his/her house to get their present. It's Tortimers Hat with a note and it read.
From Tortimer
I have served this town and city for a very long time but now it's time for new blood to manage and make this great Village into an even better one.I feel weak and frail and so I hope you remember me well and I hope you grow to be the best Mayor there ever was.
To the New Mayor of Bellfast
Tortimer spent his last days on the island fishing and eating fruit and peacefully passed away.Everyone grieved for him but the Being stayed strong and announced to everyone that he/she is the New Mayor of Belfast. Many new developments began like the Museum and Tom Nook finally upgraded his Shop and decided to partner with the Able Sisters so they can sell their clothing in his shop. The Being never remembered where he/she came from but they knew they made it in life bringing joy to everyone.
When I play, I always begin the game under the assumption that the villager has murdered his family and is on the run. That's why he has no personal effects and looks to start a new life in a new town, under an assumed name.
Working odd jobs for cash and stealing fruit is a good way to fly under the radar.
The only thing with that theory is that the villager receives letters from his family.
Really? I mean, we don't know for sure... You've never seen them, could be someone pretending to be his family...
Or the villager sends them. Either to keep up the pretence or out of denial.
Villager: Oh, look, my mum sent me a letter and a gift, she's always so considerate. ^_^
Neighbour: This is so nice, wish my parents would do that every now and then.
Villager: Well, it can get a bit annoying, I've told her a million times I don't need a babysitter. Oh well...
Neighbour: Parents, right? Ah, but you must totally take after you mother, same handwriting and all!
Villager: ...
Neighbour: ... What?

Not really. I mean, aside from the "story" that's already in Animal Crossing.
No. Games like that are solely about doing stuff to make more stuff happen so you can do more stuff. On top of that, Animal Crossing's real time Calendar kind of makes it so adding a story could prove to be difficult if not just weird.
I like Animal Crossing's objective-based nature. I just wish I could leave it alone for two weeks without my villagers getting upset with me.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite
A focus on story really takes away from the slice-of-life concept, no? It would be like putting a story in The Sims. The whole idea is to not have a story and to just do everyday normal stuff.
Well, normal within context of the game, not normal for normal people.

I love the fact that it doesn't have a story. I like just doing my own thing.
I always wished Harvest Moon had less of a story and more of just being a cute farming/life sim. I loved Harvest Moon for GCN. I miss it. My ex took it and it's gone this was years ago, mind you, but I still miss that game.
I wish they'd release a Wii U version. I'd play that game for HOURS.
Nintendo really aren't the biggest fans of story it seems. I guess mostly because they just love gameplay and they consider them in conflict. Which is partially true...
