LOL! Just don't expect to make much of a dent toward the balance of your new Wii U. I think a wii is worth $50 complete on Craigslist now, or a pawn shop.
I've got it all figured out-
Due to the stupidity of me people; the Wii is probably gonna sell for around 110$ which leaves us with 190$ for the basic one. Since I get around 8$ a week from allowance, we can round that off to 32$ a month. Sooo.. 4-6 month's worth of allowance should do the trick. I think I can crack open my piggy bank for an extra 40$ or something.
I had to multiply all those values by 50. Good thing I just came from my Math exam.
Of course I wouldn't think of trading in my Wii because I still own GameCube stuff that I still enjoy playing so keeping mine. Scamstop, I mean Gamestop only gives a measly 50$ trade in for your Wii towards a Wii U anyways.

@TwilightPoint Thanks! ;u; I just wrote down a brand new plan that includes my birthday money, but I don't feel like typing it down right now. Besides, It's getting late and I have my Biology exam tomorrow too.

My main plan is so I don't have to pay a cent. My family is the kind who don't usually give each other big multiple-hundred-dollar gifts, but I think I have a loop hole.
My idea (still haven't told anyone about it yet) is that everyone in my family contributes $20-$50 per person/group and just make the Wii U deluxe package my one single Christmas present. So #1 nobody has to get me anything else and #2 I don't have to buy it myself! I think it's ingenious.
That's pretty good. Haven't though of that because my relatives only give around 10-20$ and dad probably won't give me anything expensive since I got a 3DS last year for my b-day.

I'm keeping mine because I was crazy poor before I got a job and started trading in every game I was done with or couldn't beat. Then when I wanted to play a game like that one, I didn't have it anymore... Keeping it so in 20 years, I can be the next AVGN.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite
@sushifreAk That's some awesome logic.
I hope you did well in your exam.
BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
GameStop is offering $60 on the Wii if you're trading it in for a WiiU. Honestly, after scanning through a bunch of Craigslist ads, that seems pretty reasonable.

That sounds nice, but how would that work for those of us who want to transfer downloaded games between systems?

Well, you may have your reasons to abide by your decision, so that's that. But personally? I'd say do: the Wii U is backwards-compatible with all Wii games and almost all Wii accessories (all the essential ones, I believe). It'll save you money, and you can still have that nice content feeling of playing an exhausting round of Wii Sports with your Wiimote in hand. Wiis are still going for an average of £100/$140 in many places, so I'm sure you'll get good money somewhere, especially seeing as you can even go higher in quite a few places. eBay loves you.
Mind, if you're still keen on a few GameCube titles you may own, you might want to keep your Wii for that, unless you have a GameCube, of course. Even if GC titles do make their way on to the Wii U, I'm guessing you wouldn't want to pay for them again. But apart from that, I'd give you the green light.
