Hi. Uh, quick question: Remember what happened to Junction Point and Lucas Arts?

They failed, into hell.

I know most people on here will hate this idea as they'd consider it to be Nintendo failing, but I think it could be pretty awesome. I'm pretty sure they'd let Nintendo get on with the making games side of things, as they have no interest in doing that themselves, but we'd end up with far better marketing, a much better range of Nintendo toys, and it's probably the only way we'll get a Nintendo theme park, even if it is just a section of Disney World.

And then we could see an utterly amazing Kingdom Hearts game spanning the worlds of Square-Enix, Disney, Marvel, Star Wars and Nintendo

Do you honestly think Nintendo's Marketing is horrible? Look at SEGA's marketing, heck look at any one's marketing that could use improvement. Nintendo's marketing is decent. Not like how it used to be but its still pretty decent. The only reason they have problem in marketing is because of them not implementing smartphones and other means of media as form of appealing the brand to consumers everywhere.

The day Nintendo starts doing stuff besides gaming is the day many will know Nintendo better than now.

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

Okay, here's what the article gets right:

If Nintendo ever falls into a position where they would put themselves up for sale, Disney WOULD be one of the biggest bidders. The other big bidder? Apple. Both of these companies have a distinct advantage to gain from purchasing a video game giant with a wealth of powerful IPs. Both Apple and Disney are, compared to the competition, quite weak on the gaming side, so gaining talented developers and IPs with selling power would help.

And here's what it get's wrong:
-Nintendo isn't going up for sale any time soon. They have a lot of big plans going forward.
-Nintendo resists change my ass. Blockbuster resisted change. Nintendo is incredibly open to change, but change different from the rest of the industry.
-Nintendo has made it's share of missteps, but it's very clearly working to remedy the problem. They are branching genres with Splatoon, trying to gain ground in the violent FPS with Devil's Third, and are trying to take better advantage of their IP library.
-The 3DS is slowing down because it had a weak library this year. The New 3DS offered a huge boost to sales in Japan. If anything, Nintendo deserves a medal for making a dedicated handheld succeed when literally everyone thought that industry was done.
-Disney buying Nintendo would be a catastrophic blow to pretty much everyone but Disney. Disney is already the closest thing you could get to an entertainment monopoly. Entertainment costs would begin to skyrocket, and other entertainment companies like Warner would be hurting bad. Remember those copyright laws that give everyone hell? Well, they are gonna get worse, with Disney's improved lobbying power.

Since when did Nintendo need "saving?"

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I said before and say it again: This article is idiotic and based on nothing.

I mean, think about this - if you could buy a company for "only" 19 billion, would it mean that it is actually in trouble? And it's actually not on sale? And even IF Nintendo was in trouble, nobody would give two craps about buying the company, instead just few ips.

Also, no apple or disney would actually buy Nintendo, why would you go into market that you don't know or care much about? And actually be stupid enough to think that you can out-do the company that is around for nearly 130 years and still running?

As for Disney - do you really think it could turn out good for Nintendo? It would end up just like buy-out of Lucasfilm/arts, just massive shutdown.

If Disney were to buy Nintendo, massive shutdowns would occur. As in, say bye to Monolith Soft, Retro Studios, 1-UP, Intelligent Systems, Garage, and pretty much every single Nintendo studio except for EAD and HAL.

I'm kinda done with Polygon. This is more the straw that broke the camel's back, since their articles have been getting more clickbait-y than Nintendo Life, or even Push Square. Heck, for all the crap they get, I'd respect IGN a ton more, since they focus so heavily on news that a crap editorial like this would fall off the front page in seconds in favor of news like "Call of Duty 9's new Winking Feature" and "An In-depth look at Madden 27's Sweat physics".

If Disney bought Nintendo, they will shut them down just like they shut down Lucasarts.

Every time I see someone say "[insert game, company, etc here] will save Nintendo!" I wanna know exactly just what is it that they need saving from?

Internet Sony Trolls, maybe? But we all know there is no saving anyone from them. Even Jesus said, "love thy neighbor as thyself...except Sony trolls, those SOB's have some SERIOUS daddy issues if they're so uncomfortable in their masculinity they just can't leave other fanbases alone!"

IMO, Nintendo and Disney don't need each other to the point of merging. Disney COULD buy Nintendo, but they'd have to let it run like it already does for anyone to continue to care. From a support standpoint, I think Capcom is basically the middleman for Disny games, and Nintendo works(or at least, used to) well with Warner Bros. alot, which is one of Disney's competitors with Looney Toons. All that could change, Disney would have to figure all that out, and it might not even be worthwhile.

That's not the type of things people think about when it comes to this subject. Everybody always thinks that it's just as simple as buying, then it's over with. It would be harder to acquire Nintendo with all their business connections they've made. Buying Marvel was just buying IP. Buying Nintendo would be alot more complicated.

I don't get why it's the "cool" thing to hate IGN. If anything, they pull LESS BS than other gaming news sites. They give every company a fair shake, their reviews are good enough that you get the point without looking at the score, and they mostly work on news. Not saying they are perfect, but compared to Gamespot, Kotaku, and Polygon, IGN is great.

Apple and Disney do care about the games market a lot though. Disney, as an entertainment conglomerate, clearly sees value in making their IPs more well known through games. Apple invites a game company up to the stage in nearly every press conference, so they also clearly see the benefit in game development for their computers and smart devices.

But both companies are weaker in those areas than their competition. Disney gets destroyed in games by Time Warner, and Apple loses to Microsoft and Google.
