I never played the first one and am enjoying this, not lost in the slightest. I recommend it, you really shouldn't be lost if you skip the first.

Technically, this game runs parallel to the timeframe of the first, so you're not exactly "missing" any story aside from the fact that your fellow Horseman, War, has been framed for starting Armageddon too early and is being held by the Charred Council. So Darksiders II actually runs alongside of the events in the first for the most part. It is cool to know some of the characters and events from the first game, but not as necessary as games like Assassin's Creed or even a Gears game, for example.

And for anybody who happens to read this and is on the fence about buying: Definitely BUY if you enjoy Zelda-type games with dungeon puzzles and light RPG elements. I would describe this as a mix of Zelda, Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia, God of War, and Kingdoms of Amalur... in a not bad, confusing way lol In fact, it feels closest to Kingdoms of Amalur (gear has stats, you level up, you assign skill points, etc.) except you can do crazy Prince of Persia type wall climbing and puzzle solving with your character. I waited a bit to get this one, but it's awesome, and only continues to suck you in the more you keep playing. You can also use the pro controller with it, which I love.

Combat is fine, but after Zeldas, the dungeons just feel way too linear and obvious.
Also, the f*inng grable points..

I've finally got round to picking this game up as it's been on my wanted list for a very long time, and so far I'm thoroughly enjoying it!

Just a quick question to anyone out there that has played the game -
Is there a way leave the Gamepad display 'on' while using the Pro Controller?

I bought Darksiders 2 at launch with the Wii U. Easily one of the best games on the console. Every single Wii U owner should have this game, no exceptions. It really is THAT good. Forget the DLC and all that. Just the game itself makes it worth buying, but the gamepad integration makes it worth buying on Wii U. If there's ONE game I'd recommend buying on Wii U besides the already great exclusives, it would be Darksiders 2.

Pretty much every port or multiplat to hit the Wii U has been of a great game. Darksiders 2, Rayman Legends, Sonic Racing Transformed, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Batman Arkham City and Origins, Assassin's Creed 3 and 4, Mass Effect 3 (which is like $11 now), Injustice, Resident Evil Revelations, Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and Ghosts, etc... Pretty much every single one of those games are worth buying if you've never played them before. People knocked Mass Effect 3, but it was fantatic for someone like me who never played more than a couple hours of the first one, especially since it has a story feature that fills you in on the first 2 games and lets you make choices to set the stage for the third. Anyways, I'm going off on a tangent here- if you own a Wii U and never played Darksiders 2, that should be your next priority.

I really wish Nintendo picked up Vigil from the THQ , having both Zelda and Darksiders would be a power house of a combo.

I'm liking it okay thus far, but I have to say I find the design of the player's character to be bloody awful. I got it as a gift or I wouldn't have bothered with it given it's a disc-only release.

Never played the other game and like most franchise tittles that doesn't seem to matter.

looks like Darksiders 2 is coming back to the UK eshop on the 27th of Feb. Got to say to all the people saying they want the next Zelda that you should really get this and there is a tonne of content on this. Really have to agree with @Warruz that Nintendo should have got Vigil when they had the chance but nevermind:

It's an nice game. i can easily recommend it. But dungeons are not good or satisfying as on Skyward Sword or Pandora's Tower.
I didn't played it to the end because I've played only over a weekend on the 360. Can anyone comment of the latter half of teh game?

My exact situation. I've got a cheap copy of Mass Effect 3. But i just can't stop playing Splinter Cell Blacklist off and online (co-op). I hope I can get into that big Sci-Fi universe, because the first one felt very empty to me.

I'd say that the Land of the Dead has the weaker dungeons compared to the others but the game really opens up when you reach the angel and demon realms and there are just so many side quests and collectibles that you'll be playing it for ages

I hate to say that I haven't played much of it so far, many other games got me occupied! But from the little I played it surely has potential! One day I'll start playing it to the fullest!

I was planning on getting this game early last year but then I couldn't afford it, which made me sad as a fan of Zelda-likes.

Awesome. I got the disc release as a gift, but I prefer my games on the machine. Who's the new publisher?

So Darksiders 2 is coming out on PS4 and Xbone now, odd they're not releasing the first one:

Already have it on Wii U, wonder if I should get it when I get the PS4... probably be too busy with Batman Arkham Knight though
