Well, if they don't give me the free game, this would be the worst customer care I've ever seen. So I don't think it happens. Still a little worried, though.

they just can't expect us to read through the terms when they're not stating that we've to wait until 10 am neither in the registration process nor in the dozens of banners promoting the promotion (they only state "between May 30th and June 31st").

It says on the first page of the promotion website.

Don't start blaming everyone else because you didn't bother to read.

Well he didn't break the street date, so he didn't exactly do anything wrong. Despite the terms, you may get a break. But only Nintendo can make that call

I don't understand the arbitrary start time. Parents are going to get the game in the morning and register it unthinking, as every advert has simply stated May 30th.

It doesn't matter who is to blame. Let's say it's my fault. So what? If Nintendo starts blaming loyal customers for not reading the TIME a specific (digital) offer starts, I don't want to be a Nintendo customer anymore. Back with my PS3, I participated in some offers often days before they started (once even a day after it ended), and Sony ALWAYS handled it for me. Made similar experiences with other brands. Seriously, customer care is important to me, and I think this is at least a chance to see where Nintendo stands here.

I'm planning on just not thinking about it 'til the weekend. Try it

The last thing I think about after getting a game is registering it the same day I buy it.

Oh I love people like you who think that companies should jump at whatever demands you give them just because you pull that customer care card. Man if I worked for Nintendo now I would for sure not give you your free game because you screwed up. Use to love people like you when I was a manager of a store and they would expect me to bend the rules for them just because they are a customer.

This. I have no intention of redeeming any more codes until the next Club Nintendo year and that includes MK8 and my free game (which is just going to be Wii Party U anyway).

But as for your situation. If the offer doesn't appear, contact Nintendo and explain your situation to them. They'll probably understand. If they don't, then that's another crappy customer service story to add to the record book. It was an honest mistake on your part, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

I agree with those that say Nintendo isn't at fault. If you don't choose to read the terms, that's on you, and companies should not be encouraging people to ignore reading through the terms. Especially when it's an offer where the consumer gets something for free. Just because some companies have babied a consumer into not reading doesn't mean all companies should.

If that's your opinion, that's fine. My opinion is different. If I worked at a company and had a chance to make a customer happy without paying a single penny, I'd jump at it. And for me as a customer, I don't buy at companies that don't care. For example, I buy only B&W audio products. When something breaks, they don't even ask if I still have warranty. If I loose a cable, they just send me a new one. Sure do I pay a little more for their products, but with that customer care, I feel great while spending money there.

Last year, my iPhone broke. It was out of warranty. I just gave Apple a call, and the next day, I had a new one. I only buy Carl Zeiss lenses. When I have a question, I get an answer within ten minutes - no matter what time of the day it is. And I have many more stories about great customer care, but I don't want to waste your time here.

The point is that customer care probably is the second most important part about choosing a company to buy something (after the products themselves, of course). And it's for sure nothing any company could afford to disregard even so slight.

Telling your customers it's their fault not to have read the fine print? You won't have these customers tomorrow.

Personally, I think Nintendo will give me my free game. And why shouldn't they? But it's still a bad situation to be in.

Just thought I'd throw this little tid bit out... They are encouraging users to buy it at midnight. That automatically kind of disregards the specific time on Nintendo's part.

Can't you register it separately from when it shows up on CN, though? The game will pop-up, and you confirm registration. In otherwords, it won't register until you confirm it, but I can't remember. I'll be downloading it at midnight.

I think Nintendo will give people a break. I just think they figure that's when stores open or something. Who knows? I'll go read the t&c...

The terms and conditions in the U.S. are May 30th, 12 A.M. eastern - July 31st 11:59 P.M. pacific, It might depend on what time it is in EU. I wouldn't know.

Is there an 10 hour difference between countries in EU, or is it on a U.K. basis? You should be fine as long as you downloaded it.

Awesome offer. But no, thank you. I'm both not in the US and confident that Nintendo is a company I can trust.

The 10 a.m. is right from my local Nintendo website, unfortunately. Still weird that they won't allow you to register right after you bought it.

Sure it will cause the one's that get mad and dont read the fine print but they are only a handful. And even so there are millions of other people that a company can get for customers. Why should a company kiss your *** when something is your fault? Dont get me wrong if the company is at fault then they should admit it too. But in this instance I fail to see where it's the companies fault for you not reading the fine print. Did the company poke your eyes out so you couldn't read it? No you were just to lazy to read it that's all. So I fail to see why they should compensate you for YOUR mistake.

And if they dont give in to your demand you are going to hate them for all eternity. Yeah I have seen your type many times especially working in the retail field.

They shouldn't compensate for anything. I just expect a little goodwill from them. Also, maybe they shouldn't put a huge banner which says "Free game if you register between May 30th and June 31st!" right under the "Buy" button of MK8 when the offer is not valid between the full timespan they advertise there ...

I won't "hate" them. I just won't buy something from them anymore, because I then know that I can't trust that company. Simple as that.

I could understand not getting the free game if what got registered was a physical copy before the street date, but this is through the eShop on the day the offer begins. Why Nintendo chose 10am rather than the moment it became available on the eShop is anyone's guess, but Nintendo should not just sit idly as tens of thousands get it digitally to only end up not getting the free game meant to come with it.

That's why there is fine print.
