Topic: Could there be a chance for a DS-Player on the Wii U?

Note: there hasn't been one announced or hinted, this is just a discussion.

So with there being a touch screen on the controller with a stylus, I can see the potential of DS games being played on the big screen, this wasn't possible with the wii since there wasn't a touch screen (obviously) and nintendo has done this before with handhelds and consoles in the past, (gamecube/gba, SNES/gameboy) So why not the DS?

Both screens would be pretty horribly pixellated, and then there's the issue of games that meaningfully use the exact gap distance between the screens. Given these and other limitations, I don't believe Nintendo would ever release a general device for playing DS games on the Wii U.

However, I can envision some specially-made ports or updates of DS games, altered to take full advantage of the new setup.

I don't think the games would upscale well. I don't own a 3DS but from what I've read, the 3DS isn't ideal for playing DS games. I don't see how that could get any better with the Wii U.

Doubt it, they would have done it already...it would look weird on the Wii U, especially some games where gameplay takes up both screens. (Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks, Yoshi's Island DS, Bowser's Inside Story) Only way I could see it done is by putting both screens on the TV....or the controller.

I don't believe the game cartridge itself does the upscaling, it has something to do with the attachment or the system itself, kinda of like how the gba player worked, the gamecube processes the video and sound while the gba player had the other components to run the game, giving you a pretty good quality picture, at least it was to me. And since the DSI XL had a 4.2 inch diagonal screen I don't think 2 inches more is going to cause Horribly pixellated graphics

It will if the resolution of those screens is several times larger. The reason DS games don't look so good on a 3DS is because the resolution is a bit higher. If that causes the games to not look as good, imaging the screen stretching many more times to fit a 1080p HDTV. That won't look very good. And switching to native resolution would make the screens really hard to see unless you're standing pretty close to your TV and don't need the bottom screen for anything.

I'm pretty okay.

There may be a 3DS Player or something, but not DS. DS is last gen like the Wii.

They'll probably just add DSiware to the Wii U's shop

The Gameboy Player on the Gamecube played Game Boy, GBC, and GBA games, so it could play games from previous generations. Not to mention, DS games fit into the 3DS game slot, so not having DS support on a 3DS Player would be shocking.

It would be nice for games like Four Swords. And Smash Bros. And it could increase 3DS sales (or Wii u sales if that is a concern)
Becides the Wii u and the 3DS both have touch screens, cameras and accelerometers.
