Topic: Could the gamepad become the dualshock of Nintendo controllers?

I think it's safe to say that the gamepad is the most innovative controller i've seen in quite some time. That being said, there may not be many improvements that can be made to it. It doesn't really have any glaring flaws other than a few oversensitive triggers. So what I mean by "the dualshock of nintendo" is, could the gamepad be the controller that Nintendo decides to continue using for several generations?

I would prefer the wiimote stays instead, but more so I don't want to see such repetition at all.

Depends if they keep the same technology maybe.. but I think as time goes on the tech to make these and update them to what people would expect out of them.. will go up.. so I seriously doubt it.. I think the Wii Mote.. and Pro Gamepad will be Nintendo's Dual Shock... I think after Wii U.. the Gamepad will go from being the primary controller coming with your system to being an optional controller.. of course I could be wrong.. after all once you give people off TV play.. and touch screen tech.. it could become the new norm of what people expect out of Nintendo... I think in the end though.. the Gamepad is a double edged sword.. that both helps Nintendo and Hurts them in the long run..

Personally, I really wouldn't want the wiimote to return. Primarily because I wouldn't be able to lazily game, like on the Wii. What I mean by that is, if I'm tired and just want to get a quick game in before bed, the wiimote isn't a good choice as motion controls aren't optional.

I see what you're saying. It's basically like the 3DS's 3D in that regard.

Personally I would rather they didn't continue with touch screen with their future consoles, given the unpopularity of the wii u itself I think there's hope that they wont, even mobiles are getting various button related accessories so gaming wise at least there might be some movement away from touch screen, or so I'd like to think anyway.

I'd like if Nintendo started making cool controllers like the N64 and the gamecube ones, they felt lively those squarey "look I'm so modern and high-tech" ones feel too heartless to my eyes, I think they should make a curvy 3DS model too!

I would say that's the classic controller at this point. Its pretty similar to the dualshock lie in terms of iteration.

Well mobile is a different beast completely, and one I try to avoid. The gamepad's controls are still button-dominant for the most part, and I'm really doubting that's ever going to change.

I like both the Pro Controller and Gamepad. The Gamepad seems like a great addition in future generations like the Wiimote, and I feel that it should be optional in some games in the future generation. It's not like the fifth to sixth generations where every console had slick controllers and you would constantly look at the screen. The Gamepad is a game where I look back at the touch screen for uses like maps in Arkham City and AC3. It is very handy. Another upcoming Wii U game is using like a Smartphone, and that is genius. However, in the future generation, Nintendo should be able to make a lighter controller with some kind of different high-technology to it, and for some games, have the ability to enable Gamepad-mode or Wiimote-mode. The Gamepad is great, but developers have to put every effort in it compared to other systems like the XBox and PS3 and I feel like it's a lot heavier. That's why I use the Pro Controller in a couple of games.

I think Nintendo has set up the Wii U with so many controller options for a reason. To essentially make it a gaming hub that could last more than a few years, like maybe 8-10 years. The gamepad is great for some games, allows you to play all the e-shop games, and is good for tv based applications. they may eventually upgrade the screen resolution many years down the road when it becomes price friendly. They may even add an additional controller in the future. I wouldn't mind and N64/Gamecube rendition. But back on my original thought, I think Nintendo is going to sit tight with this console and controller scheme for a long time. There is no huge graphical leap or gameplay change coming anytime soon, other than the gamepad. The next Nintendo console will be a Virtual Boy inspired device, because they will be looking to engage in augmented reality.

I think this statement might prove to be right in the future. no one cares about AR for the same motive no one cared for motion controls before the wii: it would take just too much effort to make it good enough. I think the future might be AR games because it's a barely unpredictable thing!(and if it worked well enough would be like a dream!)
EDIT: it would also completely kill the "gaming graphics race" as the gamestage would be the real world!(I'd love to see those guys who only talk about graphics saying it was dumb to not use the real world for games before and that enhancing the way backgrounds and objects look was pointless!!!!)

I don't think so. I think that they should move forward with the pro controller, enhance that, and use it as their dualshock. The wiimote is all fun and good when executed well in game but I think that after this Nintendo needs to move on from the Wii and the motion control gaming altogether...

I feel like most games give you an alternative to using the Pro controller (even 1player games) instead of the Gamepad and I feel like there must be a reason for it. My friend just uses his pro controller for his games instead of the gamepad and it seems like almost all of his games allow for this option.

I'm expecting the next Nintendo console to have nothing but a trackball and a start button so I can finally have an arcade perfect version of Marble Madness on a home console.

I personally think Nintendo should go back and forth. Last Generation was Motion controls with Gamecube controls for back-up. This Generation it is GamePad with Wii Remote as back-up. Next Generation it should be Motion Controls with GamePad as back-up. The the Generation after that back to a Unique standard Controller with Motion Controls for back-up

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

The GamePad could actually see a few improvements, among which is having its own processing power. Nintendo having recently bought moboclip, a start-up working on the cloud, here what I just feel they'll do. They'll release a retail GamePad — when two-GamePad games will start rolling — that can play games on its own from its owner's Wii U anywhere in the world, as long as they have the Internet. All your Wii U content, straming to your truly wireless GamePad: your Wii U itself will become the cloud.

Furthermore, GamePad processing power would give even more power to the Wii U, giving Miyamoto the ability to produce his 4K Pikmin right at the very end of his carrier. Calling it now: the GamePad Plus.

I would never put it pass Nintendo to buck the trend and push for this in the next cycle. Can you imagine actually being within a game like Resident Evil...woah.
