Nintendo needs to make this happen. That would mean more exclusives and also Hideki Kamiya possibly working on Star Fox. We already knows he wants to make a Star Fox game What does everyone think about this? http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/29/platinum-games-express...
Any developer who works for Nintendo pretty close is considered Second Party, I think its like that for all of the big three. I wonder what this means for the rumored Xbox One game from platinum.

Im quite sure they are already a second party developer
1-Independently-owned studios who take development contracts from the platform holders and what they produce will usually be exclusive to that platform.
2- Studios who are partially or wholly owned by the platform holder (also known as a subsidiary) and what they produce will usually be exclusive to that platform.
Platinum fits in the first definition, if nintendo owned some stake in the company they would simply move to the second.

"Kamiya admitted he'd happily see the studio become a second-party Nintendo developer."
When asked if he'd like to see the company officially join forces with Nintendo, he replied, "I would love that. It would be great to work more closely with Nintendo."
That's from Kamiya's own mouth. So according to him they are not a second-party Nintendo developer.
Also Platinum makes games for other consoles so no they are not second party yet. Platinum is a fantastic studio and would love to see more Nintendo support from them
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Just taking that definition from Wikipedia and by that definition they are as they have a multigame contract with nintendo

Well at the very least they did make for other consoles

They still will unless they're bought out by Nintendo. Kojima wants another Rising game made and they're rumored to be making a game for Microsoft.

...I've been told 2nd party developers don't exist. >.>
Yeah I don't get it either. lol
It's in relation to 1st or 3rd person perspective. 1st person/1st party is 'We (Nintendo) are making a game for our Wii U. 3rd person/ 3rd party is 'They (Capcom) are making a game for our Wii U'. 2nd person perspective which is a voice telling the reader what they themselves are doing (you are reading his post) doesn't translate to the way the words are used in this context.
If Platinum were bought by Nintendo, they would be in essence Nintendo. The only way they could retain their 3rd party status and be that close to Nintendo would be to sign some sort of exclusivity deal for an amount of time, but not to be purchased.
Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?
I'd like to see them go second party. I really would. If they stay independent, I can't see them being able to make the games that they do and keep their head above water in the coming years.
Edit: Also keep in mind that Kamiya doesn't handle the business side of Platinum Games.
Even though he wants PG to be a second party developer, it's not his decision.

What if Nintendo owed a majority of a company but not the whole company? Do to owning a Majority, Nintendo could make the games exclusive. So wouldn't that be considered 2nd Party?

I think both Kamiya and Inbuna have said they probably wouldn't want to be acquired. Saying that however I think Nintendo would be a good fit for the company. Let platinum have pretty much 85% free reign on what they make like monolith has and retro should.

Being a scond developer shrinks the amount of freedom a studio has. Bayonetta would never have been here if it wasn't for other platforms with a different audience. I hope they keep working with Nintendo extensively but I don't want them to become a second party, just like I don't want it to happen with Atlus.

Kamiya is sure talking a lot about Nintendo this days and once again mentioned Star Fox. Nintendo let the man make Star Fox!!!

Secondary party developer is really just a different way to say subsidiary
