Last night my wife and I had dinner with a couple we recently befriended. During dinner it came up that I am a big fan of Nintendo. They perked up and stated that they had just purchased a Wii last year and that they love it. So we are talking about the Wii and the guy says that as much as he likes it, he could never see spending $300 on the Gamepad to go with it. I tried to clear it up, telling him that it's not an add on, but an entirely new system. In the end they understood, albeit with confused looks passed around.

This has happened to me a couple of times. I get to talking with someone about the Wii U and they have no idea what it is. It's frustrating. I love Wii U so much, and want it to succeed. something needs to happen soon to change peoples perception of the console, and quick.

I know I am stating what has been said here a lot, just wanted to share my experiences vouching for the Wii U. If there is another more appropriate thread please lock this one up and point me to the other.

Had the same issue. Everyone I talk to either thinks it's an add-on or just plain hasn't heard of it. I've convinced one person to buy one, and now we're both waiting for the as-yet-unannounced killer app.

Yeah, the name is a major bummer. I thought it was dumb when they announced it. Project cafe was much better, and if nothing else at least it was different. I maintain that if they had named it "Ultimate Nintendo Entertainment System" (UNES) and used a grey and red color scheme that thing would have flown off the shelves. But alas I do not work for Nintendo.

I convinced one guy that has kids. If it wasn't for me, he would bought a playstation/xbox. He never had a console. It was easy. He wasn't confused by anything.

"Dubs Goes to Washington: The Video Game".
