No DVD, no Blu-ray disc and no CD playback. Only Wii and Wii U optical discs. Nintendo consoles are strictly meant for gaming and I'm fine with that stance.

Netflix. Hulu Plus. and Amazon Instant Video say hello. And don't forget Google Street View and that Panorama View thing w/ the $1.99 vids. And Wii U Chat, which could be a Skype competitor if anybody knew it existed.
But no discs other than game discs. They really should run video if they expect people to hook up 2TB HDD for their games though. I watch most of my tv on a USB thumbdrive plugged into my PS3.
Someday we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me
I can live without the DVD and Blu Ray support however it would be nice if they did a software update to allow streamed content from USB Drives.
There may be a lame reason for lack of dvd and usb video streaming. Because you could easily watched copied movies on dvds or usb devices. So your only way to watch a show is the legal way by paying either netflix, hulu or amazon. Or if you're lucky, find the show you want to watch on youtube.
Watching DVDs became obsolete for 99% of the world population around the time that the internet became popular (see South Park episode and bankruptcy of blockbuster).
yup, just rename you DVD player to "WiiU" then you shove a DVD into the "WiiU" and it'll work.
goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn
