I personally believe it will. Super Mario 3D Land was able to turn the 3DS around in one fell swoop so I think 3D World will do the same for the Wii U. Nintendo really seems to be proud of this game and I don't blame them, it looks like the most creative Mario game in years. Its a great demonstration of the Wii U's graphical power, the gameplay looks very innovative and fun both in single and multiplayer and there seems to be a lot of hidden secrets in this game. I certainly can't wait to play it and I'm sure this will attract consumers to the console and give Wii U the sales it deserves.

But I want your personal opinion on this. What do you guys think? Is one game really enough to finally turn the tides in Nintendos favor? Is Nintendo putting too much faith in this one game? Will Batman be able to escape the clutches of the Joker? Find out in the next episode! Same Bat time, same Bat place!

@mariobros4 The first time wasn't luck though. Nintendo released a good quality Mario game and people bought the system because of it. Super Mario 3D World looks like its set to do the same because it improves on the original in every way and introduces MANY new ideas which Mario games haven't done since Galaxy.

One game does not save a console a steady release of quality releases due, I really hate this trend of people saying Wii U needs that one game that will save it. Plus SM3DL was not the one game that saved the 3DS TLOZ:OOT, MK 7 and to a lesser extent Star Fox 64 3D all played important roles as well as the substantial range of games we knew were going to be released in 2012.

@Jazzer94 Maybe I should've reworded the topic. This isn't going to be the end all game that fixes everything but I think it will boost sales considerably and start Nintendo on the right path. It will be the first to boost Wii U sales more than a measly 200%. That's what I meant by "Saving".

@Guitardude7 I feel that it will be the start of Nintendo's real push to increase Wii U's awareness and sales so I agree with you that it will be the start of saving the Wii U.

An $80 price drop turned the 3DS around in one fell swoop, I'd say.

But you have to remember that 3D Land was closely followed by Mario Kart 7, another heavy hitter. The Wii U sadly doesn't have that luxury.

I think 3+ months passes the statute of limitations to be called a one-two punch, sadly. SM3DL and MK7 were released within a few weeks of each other.

No one game can save a system. Nintendo still has all the cards to bring the system back but its up to them to use it.

No, I don't think it can save it. But if Nintendo suddenly began marketing, that would be a different story. The leadership is clueless. As a Wii U owner, I feel the end is near. This feels like the Dreamcast back in the day. I really hope I am wrong.

Not feeling the vibe for this game. It is just a re-hashed Mario Land.

I don't really think the system needs saving really. I mean even if there is zero 3rd party support in the future and the system doesn't have a monster install base, it seems like Nintendo is going to make the money they need to keep making their own games for their own systems... at the end of the day, that's all I care about.

That said, I do think Mario will help improve things, but they need a more diverse line-up to really expand the system and make it more attractive to 3rd parties. I was looking at Nintendo's list of published SNES games the other day for comparison and I was struck by their investment in the realistic sports genre at the time. I wonder if they'd ever go back to that approach to widen the appeal outside of Japan.

I don't own a Wii U as of yet and my only current/next gen system is the 3DS (which is amazing) but I am thinking about getting a Wii U once Mario 3D World is released. I am also waiting on COD: Ghosts and a couple other big hits to drop before I purchase a Wii U, but I will inevitably get one eventually due to my dedication to the brand and the fact that I do believe the console will eventually start to sell in large numbers.
