Topic: Booting into Wii Mode

So every time I hold down "B" to boot my Wii U in Wii mode it says that it is going to do it, then the Wii U menu opens up and asks me to sign in to my Nintendo Network ID. This is silly seeing as now I still just have to start Wii Mode from the Wii U menu. Any help with this?

It is normal. It does this because the Wii Menu data is separate for each user.

Ask Nintendo about this. I would try it, but I don't have my Wii U with me atm.

It doesn't do that to me...I use the the new feature every day to play Xenoblade.

Do you have your Wii U set up with multiple Users?

Choose to sign into your ID automatically. You can choose to skip the sign-in process and go either directly to the Wii menu or Wii U menu.
I just tested it out.
Our NNIDs are tied to our Wii purchases which is why it happens, but this is the way around it. I know the NNIDs are tied to Wii mode, because that's how you update your VC games to Wii U from Wii.

EDIT: You should hear a jingle after the Wii U logo is about to disappear. You should still be able to get to the Wii menu regardless, though. I had auto login as the setting, then choose user setting, and I got to the Wii menu both times. I don't know what you guys are doing wrong, but I can confirm that I had no problems doing the same thing.

I don't get it. Are you saying I need to ditch password login for the feature to work?

The only thing I tested is auto login booting to Wii menu, and manual login. It worked both times. With manual login, I had to choose a user, but it still went to the Wii menu immediately. The password shouldn't matter. I don't use a password, but I'm not testing more than what I already have.
My conclusion is that you guys having problems aren't doing it right to begin with. Just hold down the B button as soon as the Wii U turns on, and keep it held down until you hear the jingle.

Must have been, you're right.

Thanks for the tip.

I found out a neat little trick yesterday - if you switch on your Wii U with one of your Wii Remotes instead of the GamePad, you can just use the B button on that same Wii Remote.

Just a little thing, but if you know you're only going to be playing Wii games, it saves you having to get out your GamePad as well...

That's actually pretty cool - thanks.

I don't think I've even tried this yet. But I don't have a desire to go into my Wii menu 1st when I turn the Wii U on. I want to do other things 1st on my Wii U b4 switching to Wiimode its just better that way.

This is good stuff.

Until all the focus shifts to native U software - in my house - it's really uselful.

Geeze, what was 'the big N' thinking with this Wii menu nonsense! Backwards compatibility should have worked as nicely as it did on Wii!

You can pry my bassoon from my cold dead fingers!

I am also having trouble with this. There is definitely something wrong. Occasionally it does work and it boots directly from holding B on the Gamepad and powering console on from the Gamepad. Most of the time it fails however and takes me to the user select screen then after I select my user it takes me to the Wii U menu instead. Holding B on the Wii remote and powering console on from Wii remote does not work either it takes me to the user select screen every time so far then the Wii U menu again. This is garbage. My Wii U has already been to Nintendo repair twice with stupid software problems, once failing to get into the settings menu (just got stuck on screen), then when I got it back from Nintendo whatever they did I got a new error code every time I tried to go into eshop or access Miiverse (error code: 102-5201). Now there is a problem with this.

You have to start presings B when the "Wii U" logo appears, not before.
