Topic: Best looking game on the Wii U?

Posts 1 to 20 of 99

Dezzy

Apologies if there's another thread on this, I couldn't see one.
Finally got round to buying a Wii U and after being wowed by some of the gameplay, I've been looking around to see which I think is the most graphically impressive game so far. Thought I'd ask others as you can't always get a proper flavour from youtube videos (especially on my internet connection).
So far, I'd say Mario Kart 8 is the best looking game I've played. To be honest, It's probably the best looking game I've played, period. I've yet to see anything on the PS4 that outdoes it.
Thoughts?

(So far I've played Mario 3D World, Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Windwaker, Bayonetta and some indies)

It's between Bayonetta 2, Rayman Legends and Mario Kart 8 for me. Although I have massive respect for the technical wizardry in Smash Bros. Having 8 players with items on in massive maps, yet it keeps up the 1080p 60 fps. Quite crazy. I also like the art direction in Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut (but it doesn't look as good as the other aforementioned games).

Best thread ever

I would agree about Mario Kart 8. I can't think of anything that looks better than that.

I'm not sure "for me" is even necessary, these are clearly the best looking games on the Wii U right now. The fact that they actually knew how to combine art and technical graphics makes me eternally happy.

Also special shout out for Trine 2. Seriously for a Wii U launch eShop game, it might as well be MGS5.

To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed with Smash. I think it looks quite plain compared to Mario Kart. But I've never been that hugely into Smash as a game anyway. I only really enjoy it if I'm playing it with 4 friends, which sadly isn't that often. (Seems like Europeans don't really like Smash, based on the sales figures).

Completely disagree. While there are going to be very clear trends in popularity, I think it will ultimately be hugely subjective. Whether you like a particular art style over another, a particular colour scheme over another or a particular use of a graphical technique (e.g bloom) will all have huge effects. I know for a fact that I'm more impressed by certain graphical techniques (visually impressed, not conceptually) than other people are, and the same in reverse. I know people who claim to hate bloom and claim to hate motion blur and won't shut up about any instance of them being used. Whereas I love both.

I would say Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, and Super Smash Bros. Rayman also has really good graphics, but it is 2D, so it literally wouldn't be fair to even compare them, so it's #1 for 2D. I think Bayonetta 2 is a runner up to those, for graphics. Everything else is just a 7th generation port or an indie game, so they didn't really have much of a chance. I'm not saying it's impossible for indie games good graphics, because games like Nano Assault Neo and Fast Racing Neo exist, but they are still what I would consider runner ups.

Most games on the Wii U look lovely in HD. Out of all the games I've played on the Wii U, I can easily say Mario Kart 8 is the best, visually. 3D World is also beautiful, IMO. Believe it or not, if it were running at a better frame rate, I'd say Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics looks very, very nice.
But I think most games on the Wii U look very good, so I don't really care that much.

God first.

For me personally - The top 5 games that really are a treat to the eyes and a provide a solid gameplay experience on the Wii U include!
1. Mario Kart 8, colorful, fluid and runs at a solid 60fps what more is there to say?
2. Bayonetta 2, the one game that does show that the system can produce highly detailed visuals and still maintain a decent framerate. I need to replay this one soon
3. Mario 3D World
4. Wind Waker HD
5. Captain Toad, yes it may be a puzzle game but still its vibrate plays well and is one game that will put a smile on your face.

The system might not be nearly as powerful as the twin consoles Xbone/PS4 or modern pcs but it sure can hold its own, one thing Nintendo knows how to do is use color and artstyle to their advantage, ask this question again this time next year, I feel Zelda U will be my number 1 best looking/playing Wii U title then.

I have played Rayman as well actually. But on the Vita, where it's equally beautiful, so I wasn't even thinking about it on the Wii U.

I certainly hope you're right. Based on the first trailer, it might well be the best looking. It was a bit annoying we only got a distant impression on the recent video. I bet it was because they didn't think it was polished enough for fullscreen glory yet.

If gameplay, art style and graphics are combined, I'd say:
Pikmin 3 (except for some of the ground textures), Mario Kart, Super Mario 3D World, Tropical Freeze, Bayonetta 2

Ask me in a month, and I might put Captain Toad first (apparently that graphics engine is improved since 3D World). Ask me in a few months more, and I might say Yoshi's Wooly World.

If graphics quality for screen shots are to be considered, I might consider one of the 1080p titles.

Mario Kart 8 is so visually impressive and looking what they did for the DLC's Mute City track makes me think if Nintendo ever returns to the F-Zero franchise that game will easily be the best looking Wii U title just like GX was for the GCN!

An honourable mention goes to Tropical Freeze, those stunning landscapes look fantastic. I honestly can't say a single level that doesn't look great yet outside of long load times which I think the Wii U is probably doomed to anyway for all games I think Nintendo nailed the HD game concept by this point.

Looking like Zelda Wii U and Xenoblade Chronicles X. I love those big natural environments.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Taffy

I'm a sucker for art style rather then screen resolution and frame rate so for me the best LOOKING games (as the title asks) would be Darksiders 2, Batman Arkham City, Zelda Windwaker HD, Pikmin 3 and Bayonetta 2

It has to be Bayonetta 2, Clear Cut (No arguements on this) IMHO. But games like Mario Kart 8 and Pikmin 3 have amazing graphics too. Than there are games like SM3DW, Donkey Kong : TF, Batman Arkham City : Armoured Edition, Rayman Legends, LOZ Windwaker HD which have awesome graphics too.

I'm going to go with Mario Kart 8 and Bayonetta 2. Both of those games made me say "wow" when I was playing them for the first time.

Need for Speed Most Wanted U looks really nice as well.
