The Nyko battery is excellent in my experience. When it was first released there was a design flaw that was since corrected...the first 2 I got I had to return. It adds some weight to the gamepad but the battery life is excellent.

Nykos customer service was excellent and they sent me their other product the U boost, which is also excellent, along with a USB gamepad charging cable in addition to sending me the revised battery product. They didn't even have me send back the bad battery which I was able to return for a full refund. So I got all 3 products for free basically since the original battery was defective...that is excellent customer service.

The combination of the Uboost and the Powerpak give me basically unlimited battery life which I have taken full advantage of on the weekends of some big releases. I have the power pak which gives incredible battey life on it's own and I keep my Uboost charging with the USB cable connected to the console. On the rare occasions my battery actually gets low I connect the Uboost to the gamepad and it charges up the battery at which point I can remove it and charge it again while my gamepad has a good charge. Additionally, if this method proves to annoying, I can swap in my fully charged original battery and do the same thing.

What sort of hours you getting as standard ive seen 3hrs then Nintendo's extended 5.5hrs what about this Nyko one ?

Its hard to say since the gamepad will go back on the charger for small gaming breaks.

I estimate at least 7 hours with the gamepads brigthness and rumble everything turned up to max. It's also hard to say since the only time the battery gets low it seems to be when my kids are using the Wii U when I am not around and they don't return it to the charger or will leave youtube video playing on it while not charging and stuff. In those situations the Uboost saves the day. It's like a powerbank that you can keep taking to the well to refill your charge as needed.

If your batterylife is only occassionally a problem I think the Uboost is probably all you need. You may not like attatching a battery to the outside of your gamepad but its not that bad and it is really easy to take on and off....it is much more convenient than needing to plug in.

If batterylife is constantly a problem the powerpak will more than double it I believe. If thats all you need than go with the powerpak....the original battery holds a charge just great when its removed from the gamepad so you will have a fully charged backup.

If you want basically unlimited battery life than get the powerpak and the uboost.

I can't speak on Nintendos battery other than what you said where it is rated for less mAh than the Nyko version, but it may be lighter and it is first party if that matters. I am not sure how much it costs or even if its available in my region.....isn't it Japan only still?

Cant find anywhere to get it here in the UK at the minute, will definitely get that over Nintendo's one then, seems impossible to find, strange.

Oh yeah, regarding the Nyko Power Pak. From my experience the original batch had put the connector on backwards. This meant when you seated the battery in the gamepad you had to twist the wire from the connector in order for it to fit properly. This was the cause of the problems I believe, connection issues with the battery contacts. Both bad batteries I got I had to twist the cables.

On the revised battery Nyko sent me I did not need to twist the connector and it has worked flawlessly since I got it.

It looks like these may be hard to find as I see Amazon and gamestop do not have them available currently. They are MSRP of $25 so don't get ripped off if you find them somewhere.

I am in NA and I had this thing pre-ordered before it came out and it kept getting delayed and then when that date would get close it would get delayed again.

I think they made a few batches with limited quantities. I remember before I got mine I saw reviews that were good that led me to believe it had been released and sold out prior to my pre-order. Maybe they just didn't make that many and are not making more for the same reason we don't get many 3rd party games......

If you can find a good one at a good price it is a good product and I feel Nyko is a good company that stands behind their products.

You may be out of luck....I don't see the product mentioned on Nyko's website anymore either....

They still have the U boost.

Is the Nintendo extended battery available in all regions yet?

Yes but far to expensive for what it is compared to the Nyko which outperforms it.

I did read a review that said Nintendos battery only weighs one more oz than the regular battery.

The powerpak I am not sure, but it does seem to add noticeable weight to the gamepad.

I am surprised extended batteries are not more popular....the regular battery is pretty poor and the gamepad battery compartment has so much extra room to accomodate a bigger battery.

I have both the nyko internal and external units. Gamepad last all day long literally all day.

The internal battery I first got was wired wrong they sent me the boost pack for free toll they rewired and sent me a new internal one they work great.

Uhh yeah i heard about the nyko internal battery version having a design flaw with the connection. Can you link me to the revised version, if possible, on amazon? I've been looking for an internal battery but dont want the external uboost battery

Amazon says it's not available. It's not on Nykos website anymore. Gamestop says it is unavailable. I can't even find it on ebay or anywhere.

They may not make it anymore or ever again. I guess I can sell mine for $500.....just kidding it's not for sale.

I don't think there is anyway to tell if you have a good one or bad one before you buy....box looked exactly the same. Only difference was the orientation of the connector. If you have to twist it it is most likely going to have problems but you can't tell until you actually go to install it.

One thing you may try, that may be unethical, is to call up Nyko customer service and tell them you got a bad battery. As I mentioned they sent me out a uboost, a usb gamepad charging cable, and a powerpak all for free with no questions asked (no proof of purchase and did not have to send them the defective battery). I returned my defective battery to gamestop for a refund. I just looked up their customer service number on their website and cold called them...it took a few tries to get a person but they hooked it up.

This was 10-12 months ago however.....

I have the official Nintendo one and i get around 8 hours out of a charge depending on usage. Due to the shape of the pad the extra weight is hardly noticeable and its really easy to fit. I have my brightness set to 2 all the time though, i set all my all my screens to low brightness as it reduces eye strain and prevents damage (I had laser surgery a couple years back and i'm super protective of my 'new' eyes now lol).

In anycase you will see a noticeable improvement, even though i prefer my see-thru afterglow pro pad for gaming its nice knowing my gamepad can go more than one long gaming session without a recharge. I really hope Sony do something about the life of the DS4 in the near future also.
