so who went today and how was it? i got to go out and play super mario 3d world and was pretty disappointed. i even met a fellow nintendo life member named v8_ninja which im sure many of you know.
there was only about 12 there but the first twelve people in line got a gold coin with luigi on it serounded by a sealed plastic case. they looked beautiful. they also had luigi foam hats too. but all i got was a mario kart flag
im sorry i tried finding a forum before i posted this but didnt see one. i agree with you on how nice everything looked especially in mario kart 8 the graphics were so smooth with beautiful colors, even the coins looked a lot better! nobody actually played donkey kong the whole time and i was disappointed after that i chose mario over dk. but hopefully i can go this sat.
I went. My brother and I played 2 player Mario Kart 8. He really liked it, and it will be a fun game when it releases.
I used the GamePad motion(you can also use standard controls). It's already way better than the current Mario Kart on Wii or 3DS. The graphics were nice.
It supports the Wii remote+s, and every other controller I think, too(but those weren't being used). I only caught a few looks at Mario 3D World, and only one person tried WW HD.
I brought my 3DS and got like 20 streetpasses.
They're good games. People that have never even played Mario Kart were their, and they thought it looked good...
I got the flag, because that's all they had left, but I might try a different game on Saturday.
I would love to, but can't due to the only one that's available in Washington is Lynnwood, which is over an 1 hour drive from where I'm at.
I'd be more concerned about the wait, when you actually get to the store.
I got there 10 minutes after it started and I ended up waiting 2 hours and 20 minutes just to play Mario Kart 8. I just played Animal Crossing w/ my bro during the wait.
I understand the travel is most likely what you're talking about, but if the long drive is the problem(not gas), then maybe...
If you're going on Satuday, make sure you get there like 20-30 minutes early.
My Best Buy was packed. It took me around 3 hours to play 2 stages of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Breeze, and nothing else.
However, I did get 20 Streetpasses, and I got people to enter my Animal Crossing town and got Cherries and Apples from it.
I also got a Mario Kart Flag, an Animal Crossing 3DS Cover, and Animal Crossing Pins. My friend got a Wii U lanyard and a Wii U bracelet. They were also giving Mario, and Luigi hats, and Animal Crossing fans.
However I'm coming back early on Saturday to play.
@Klyoctopus
Damn. I just got the flag. They must have really skimped the freebies at the Best Buy I went to...
I don't think they even had half of what you said.
I'm not sure how this went for people at other Best Buys, but I live in Los Angeles and the Best Buy I went to had an extremely long line so I only got to play one game! I chose to play Mario Kart 8 with my friend. The graphics were the best I've seen for a Wii U game yet. The gameplay was a mix between Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7, but handled much like Mario Kart 7 with Wii motion controls.
The only other game I saw people play was Super Mario 3D Land which looked pretty fun. No one that I saw played Wind Waker HD or the Donkey Kong game because I guess they figured if they're going to wait in line for hours they would want to play a fresh game!
I won a Year of Luigi coin which is going for like $150 on ebay already...I don't know what to think of that.
There were also Asians (no offense to anyone) in the store who had blazers with Pikmin on them. I wonder if they were affiliated with Nintendo in any way, since E3 was about 15 minutes from that location, so it's possible that they came from that?
Honestly I had more fun playing 3DS games in line with new people than playing Mario Kart 8 for like three minutes but it the game still looked good nonetheless!

I don't even know if I feel like driving the 40 minute or so drive to the closest participating Best Buy, only to wait in line for how long.. It would be so nice if they just let you download demos..

I left my house at 12:50, skated to the subway, got off, took two more buses, and finally got to Best Buy at 3:20. Even though I showed up BEFORE 4, I still didn't get to play two laps of Mario Kart 8 until 5:30. EVEN WITH ALL OF THE WAITING, I still feel like it was worth it because of all the people I got to talk to and play 3DS games with in line! Also got a ton of street passes!
I'm in the UK, so no Best Buy demos here, but is it bad that I feel more jealous of the mentions of 20 streetpasses than getting to play these games? I've had 10 streetpass hits and I've had my 3DS for 7 months. I take it everywhere too.
If Nintendo allowed everyone to download the e3 game demos, it would not have the same "hype factor," and people may not be as exited about the game. By limiting the amount of access we have to the games, it makes us crave them even more. Also their servers would probably struggle but that's a whole different issue
