Scores are so one dimensional... Anything remotely proper in terms of review score can be a great game, just not as appreciated by the people in question.

This is exactly why I don't support grades concepts anywhere in general.

If it is a new thing (Opposed to just a more of the same sequel) they seem to rate it higher. (Same as I do).

For example I got more out of Return to Dreamland (Adventure Wii) than Triple Deluxe. They rated the former higher I agree I got much more out of it. (I went against my better judgement to get the 3DS one but I shouldn't have done).

Kid Icarus 3DS is not just a sequel. (They rate it I do).

I am only interested in working out whether I should get something or not. (Because I am going to like it). I am always going to like something new more than a sequel unless it fixes all the issues I had with the original like 3D World does.

I would say it's probably a fair indication that Bayonetta 2 is an excellent game. It's just not quite as good as Nintendogs or Wind Waker.

I am surprised people thought Smash 3DS would be an unbeatable game. Smash is pretty weak as a single player game so a handheld version was always going to suffer from being on a small screen. I'm going to buy Smash Bros but I reckon I might get more hours out of Bayonetta 2!

Or the first Bayonetta. (That is the important one).

tbh, there is no way a handheld fighting game should be on the same level as 2 of the apparently best action games ever made, so this says way more positive things about Smash Bros

I certainly wouldn't call their intergrity into question but I also don't take Famitsu's scores that seriously in general.

Japanese gamers seem to have a huge cultural bias that just doesn't exist in the west. The western world buys nearly everything Japan makes and they buy almost nothing "we" make in return. I don't have a problem with that personally but it does mean that as a westerner reading Japanese reviews, you do have to take that bias into account. They did rate The Last Remnant higher than Mass Effect. And they did give Final Fantasy 13 a score of 39/40.

That said, Nintendo games in general seem to be something that are fairly equally loved around the world. So maybe on the question of Smash Bros they're more reliable?

I dunno why you would make those comparisons. Compare games that are similar (And Japanese or None Japanese).

I don't really rate Mass Effect (Certainly not compared to Baldurs Gate 1 & 2 / Knights of the Old Republic / Jade Empire / Neverwinter Nights etc which I think at that time were as good games as anybody was making) didn't like Dragon Age: Origins either they were done for me at the point and cared about things I didn't more than things I did. (And then they were part of EA so all hope was lost).

MDK2 is quite good as well never knew that was Bioware.

The Last Remnant is awful but so are all the recent Final Fantasy games I have played so I don't need to know anything more about that.

Is this a serious question or is it ironically based on the difference between the scores?
The point? Highlighting Famitsu Review of Bayonetta 2. The comparison with SSB 3DS & question was simply a joke not to be taken seriously.

I enjoy Smash Bros, and I enjoyed the first Bayonetta. Therefore anything that Famitsu, or anyone else says about the sequels is moot.

So you have never played a bad sequel to a game before ?

Famitsu gave FF Xlll-2 a perfect score. Think about that for a minute.

I remember those comments of users complaining about how "Nintendo Life" gave a game a higher score...despite the fact that the reviewers were different

So what, it was 9, 9, 10, 10 vs 9, 9, 9, 10? Is there an actual breakdown of which reviewer gave which game what? It could be that two guys felt that Bayonetta 2 deserved a 10 while Smash was a 9 and one guy thought Smash was a 10 and Bayonetta 2 was a 9. For all we know the guy who gave both of them 9s may have liked Smash more but wasn't really ready to give it a 10. Maybe if they added a 5th dude he would have been willing to hand out a 10. Maybe one of the guys who gave Smash a 9 hadn't had his coffee yet that day.

Really guys, it's pretty immaterial. They aren't measuring anything empirical, it's all purely subjective. Because of that you can more-or-less treat a 9 and a 10 as pretty much the same thing. Even moreso when it's the difference between one 10 and two.

I'm tempted to go on a rant about how stupid it is to put so much emphasis on Famitsu, but I did that last week in a now-locked thread, so I'll copy and paste:

So a random hobby magazine from Japan awards a game a random number, mentioning nothing but a short blurb because they know they're readers aren't supposed to care about their review section, since even in Japan they have online websites and social media people can get actual opinions from...and yet somehow people keep acting like its supposed to be news? Why? Because seeing hours of it being played at 3 different events wasn't enough to know it was already good?

I mean, the only reason Famitsu ever had any noterioty was because they used to have a really stern review policy (which they've long since softened up on). Kinda like Gamespot. Does anybody here actually respect Gamespot?!?!
