@bezerker99 For a moment i thought youve said account instead of comment...oh well, whishfull thinking
No honestly, its not about having a different opinion or not liking a game. I dislike many games that are regarded as blockbusters.
But reading things like "just spam buttons" and your general banter towards platinum games leave the impression, that you dont even have the slightest clue what an action game is, and you still judge these games on that standard. So yeah, that turns a different opinion into a shallow, stupid one.
There is a difference between "i cant stand this game / genre" and "These games are rubbish"

Really loving the demo!

Remember everyone, this is just the prologue, spamming buttons will probably get you past the weakest enemies at the start of the game, but like the Wonderful 101 you will have to learn through practice, skill, and being alert how to take on later challenges.

Beyond that there is the matter of looking cool while doing it and gaining higher level trophies and rewards!

@bezerker99 I can relate, I didn't like the W101 demo because it was too hard to tell what was going on. Or no, rather I didn't understand it because I couldn't tell what was going on. That's the politically correct way of putting it.

Like Oscar Wilde said everything popular is wrong.

There is no way to play these games without having to mash buttons at certain parts which sucks. There is no way around it.

I may try the demo, then again I might just not bother with it and get the game at some point. lol
Dunno when, though...I'm being bombarded with games here. lol

@bezerker99 What you gave was not an opinion, it was a fact. You called the game a button masher when it clearly is not. If you just said "Ew I don't like the game", then we would've been cool with it. Just sayin.

Have yet to dive into the demo, but I remember the first game having a somewhat deep combat system for a Hack n Slash title. It was a bit difficult to adjust to, but a lot of fun once you got into the rhythm and figured out how to combo moves properly.

I just tried the demo and I thought I would enjoy it more than I did. I guess I just want the whole game instead of only a little part of it. Still a Day 1 purchase of course, and nice to hear a lot of positive comments about it.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Finally played the Demo. Basically the same as the first E3 demo, just without difficulty settings (at least I didn't see any) it was shorter than I would have liked but still awesome. Can't wait to play the full game, and the first game.

@DefHalan Talking about short, Bayonetta 1 was the first and only game of its kind (DMC, GoW and whatnot) that i finished, thought i was through and discovered "there are even MORE weapons to find ?!? O.o, and another secret boss ??!"
In short, Bayo 1 was an absolute blast to play and definitly offers quite a lot of content, especially for completionists I highly recommend finishing both, even though 1 probably cant hold up to what the demo alone had to offer in terms of high octane action sequences

@berzerker99
Would you mind telling me what game you like, that "sucks" really bad, IMO? That's literally what the discussion comes down to if you want to be on the same page as most other users in this thread.

In zerks' defense, this game is not the forte of a lot of people. It doesn't seem like the kind of game I would find fun either. I'll try the demo, but I doubt I'll have a good opinion of the gameplay

Saurian Dash, interviewed by Platinum Games:
7. What do you feel is the most important aspect of an action game?
"I believe the most important aspect of an action game is the way it respects and reflects the potential of the player. As such, I value a game system which allows the player to express their individual creativity and ingenuity. I love the idea of a game system which allows the player a great deal of freedom to develop their own unique style of play, then presents that player with a course designed outward from that core system to test the skills they have developed. I also believe the communication of hazards should be treated with the utmost care: the player should be able to develop a precise sense of the exact moment enemy attacks are triggered. To this end, clear audio/visual signposts are an absolute must. I especially love the idea of linking audio cues to the triggering of enemy attack signposts. With an audio cue in place, the player can know the exact moment an enemy attack is triggered, whether the attack is activated on or off-screen. I find I have the most fun when I achieve an acute sense of the precise amount I can push my attack before I need to take evasive action, and audio cues especially enable me to achieve that sense.
Of equal importance is to build an incentive into the game system to encourage the player to play well. Far too many games today have very simple game systems with no incentive whatsoever for the player to improve their competence within that system. The last thing I want to see after blundering through an enemy encounter is the equivalent of a perfect rank and praise for my valiant efforts! No, I want to be rewarded a genuine victory for learning how to overcome a challenge."

Praise the Sun, and Mario too.

I preferred Mad World but the demo hasn't put me off Bayonetta 2.

There's a moment in the demo where Bayonetta faces the giant monster she's about to kill. That moment definitely made me think 'this is what games should be like'. It's definitely a welcome relief to play a game with no pretensions of realism.

I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

I remember getting Soul Calibur II and learning the move sets for all these characters. I mean, I learned Talim's moves, the dominatrix girl with the whip sword, Link, and Cassandra. I got really good with Talim. I could beat the computer on hard fairly easily. Then, one day, my sister said "that looks fun, let's play." She smashed ALL OF THE BUTTONS and beat me. She beat me every. single. time. To the point where I quit playing.

What's the point? I'm not sure. Button smashing can work sometimes? Learning combos doesn't make you a good player? I enjoyed the game very much after learning the moves, but once I saw my sister beat me without having any idea what she was doing, it ruined it for me.

That said, I'm very much looking forward to this game.

@Pigeon - In other words, it's a bad demo, as expected. We'll have to wait and see if the actual game teaches, better, though I kinda doubt it will. That's not Platinum's way. Nor was that the way of Devil May Cry or God of War that came before it. What makes them great is that it offers as much depth as you're willing to put into it. It's kinda like playing a fighting game.

@CanisWolfred Nicely put. You can beat pretty much any fighting game with button mashing on lower difficulty settings. But do yourself a favor and try this on the higher settings or worse, even online. Any SNK game will show you your place if you think you can beat it by mashing buttons, and thats a perfectly good thing.
Compare it to, say, Dark Souls. Many are interested in its setting, its unique lore, its RPG elements and yet, simply cant put up with its difficulty and the amount of dedication it requires.
Bayonetta on the other hand, as much as similar games, can very well be cleared by hammering buttons and wiggling the stick. Its about what you want to get from a game. Is a normal clear enough for you ? If yes, youre probably looking for the wrong game here. These games arent lenghty, nor are they known for their in depth storylines. If you want a challenge, hone your skills and try to topple its highest difficulty. Thats when button mashing is not an option anymore.
Its as deep or shallow as you want it to be. Do you want to go with a "get it done" attitude, than mash whatever suits you or do you want to see those platinum trophys ? Then its no hit, flawless combo town for you. And then its, like Wolfred said, pretty much like any other fighting game. What move connects into another, learning timing and cancels, highest hits vs highest damage, scoring system analysis etc.
Another good example for this would be the SHMUP genre. What are your goals ? Just a clear no matter what ? Or a highscore run, exploiting every opportunity you get to rack up masses of points, playing outside the comfort zone ? Or even a SLC (single life clear) ?
