It was never going to sell to a huge fanbase. It didn't sell well when it was multiplat. However it is a great addition to the wiiu library and a treat for those that are fans as Sega had mothballed the series. I can't wait.

Didn't she say not to touch, maybe that's why it "bombed" ;3

I made Sheldon & Mr. Randoms back on Flipnote Hatena, now i'm a kangaroo mod that has a funko pop collection!

I'm not keen politics since that stuff is spooky, I'd rather watch SpongeBob over Fox News anyways!

Is this another case of a user thinking if a game isn't #1 then it "bombed"?

Pretty much.

I don't really care how it did in Japan. I'm going to buy it and I'm going to enjoy it. Its overall sales numbers couldn't mean less to me.

My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."

Europe and America will make it a lot better for this game.

I like that this "sexist" game was made by a young and talented female producer.
The fact that a woman is the producer of Bayonetta 2 makes that sexist argument freaking pointless.

Anyway, the Bayonetta 2 Nintendo Direct was informative enough that I'm wanting this at launch.

Is that true that you cannot make something sexist if you are a member of that sex ?

No, but it's true that most people said it is sexist because they thought it was produced by a man!

It got the standard 80% drop for week 2 sales and sold under 7k this week. Can people stop using the 'it's not a full week' excuse now? Every game making it's chart debut gets 1 or 2 days on sale, and without fail that first week is vastly higher than the following week where it has a full 7 days.

Oh, and Fatal Frame also bombed, which is more depressing news. 27k sold. Even less chance of it being localised now

I agree, not only is it irrelevant but this is how goes in most cases for releases. The charts are just the usual buying spree in Japan.

Bayo 2 was always going to bomb everywhere because its sort of a niche genre, with a niche character, or a niche platform. I wouldn't be surprised if Legend of Korra and Scalebound out sells it.

Fatal Frame is even worse but shouldn't effect localization since Nintendo doesn't have enough content coming to say this isn't coming over.

Concerning Fatal Frame V also bombing, I wouldn't say that necessarily. That franchise never really sold hugely at any point, so it selling a lot of copies would probably be an anomaly rather than what it did week one. But, yeah, probably doesn't help it come to the West.

EDIT: Also, I have no idea who in Japan keeps buying Yoshi's New Island, but they're amazing people.

Content on Wii U is not that relevant to a localization. The profit/risk factor is probably a higher priority. Why risk paying a lot for a localization if it won't sell well. That's counterproductive

Well I hope that Bayo would sells a lot better in NoA and NoE, and that helps to encourage a localization of Fatal Frame.

Japan is a poor place to judge console numbers, so I don't get why people put so much stock into "This game on a home console bombed in Japan! It will fail everywhere else!"

The home console market in Japan is dead. There is no way to sugar coat it, there is no magic revival coming, and its a trend that has been going on for years. Japanese gamers simply don't care about home consoles and what they have to offer. Granted, you might see a spike in sales when a major game like Mario Kart or a Final Fantasy game arrives, but the numbers plummet as quickly as they spiked.

Japanese tastes in gaming have shifted to handhelds and mobile gaming. Something to keep in mind is that Japan is pretty much responsible keeping the Vita alive and saving it from a quick trip to the gaming console graveyard.

But look at the charts every week. Outside of a spike from a launch or a major game, when was the last time a home console was the top selling system in Japan? When was the last time a home console had a streak on top of the charts?

That's why Bayonetta 2 and Fatal Frame bombing is as big of a deal as people make it out to be. They are selling to consoles that Japanese games don't' care for. It's like someone saying a Vita game bombed in the US. We don't care for the Vita over here, and the Japanese don't care for the Wii U or Playstation 4.

The real test will be how these games sell in the West. More importantly, Nintendo needs to market the hell out of these games. The West is the make or break market for console games now.

Maybe this game will carry on at 6k per week for a long while and spare Nintendo's blushes

On the bright side, I noticed a Smash Bros. commercial after a Champion's League match last night. Probably the first time I have seen Nintendo advertise at a sensible time since the Mario Kart Wii advert I saw. Now if Nintendo just do something like this for Wii U and its games, they might see some sales.....

I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

@Caryslan

In your over analysis you seem to miss the point. You keep saying that Japanese gamers don't care about consoles, and that's why Bayonetta 2 isn't selling well, so that's why it's not a problem.

There are over a million Wii U consoles sold in Japan, and the game still sold abysmally. It's obvious that those million + Wii U owners don't care for this game, and that's why they aren't buying it. When a big game comes out for the Wii U it will sell well, but Bayonetta isn't a big game. It's not selling well because people don't want it, not because Japanese gamers aren't interested in consoles, which has no relation to this sales situation.

If Smash Bros sells 200k-400k copies for Wii U in its first week in Japan, does that mean the console business is booming in Japan? No? So why then when a Wii U game bombs in sales it's easily explained away as 'Oh, it's not the game that's the problem, it's just that people in Japan don't buy consoles anymore'?

OK, People need to accept this already.Bayonetta 2 is a fail in Japan, BIG TIME.As much as i wanted it to be a success, it is a fail.It is a high profile game for the Wii U which didn't manage to sell even 60K in 2 weeks??? What do you call that? The numbers are abysmal even when the number of Wii U`s in Japan is taken under consideration, by any standard.Wii U gamers need to stop defending the poor sales.Dodging each poor sales with one thing or the other. Now all I can do is hope it does well in Europe and America.
