Topic: Banjo-Kazooie composer wishes ex-Rare staffers would form new company and make Banjo 3 for Wii U

Series composer and ex-Rare employee Grant Kirkhope recently appeared on Game Grumps and relayed a desire to have former staffers reunite, form a new company, and make Banjo-Kazooie 3 for Nintendo on Wii U.

Kirkhope said:

“I keep wishing that all the ex-Rare staffers would just get together and form a company, and go to Nintendo and say ‘give us the money. We’ll make you Banjo 3 for the Wii U’ or whatever. …Just make Banjo 3 like it should have been made back then and it would be great, and it would be great on Wii U, and all the ex-Rare guys would be together again all happy and kissing each other. … I just keep thinking we should just give it a try.”

My god, what I wouldn't give for this to actually happen.

Rare was awesome when they were working for Nintendo, Banjo Kazooie was one of the best platformers ever made

Banjo Kazooie Nuts n Bolts for Xbox was terrible in comparison as it lost all platform elements.

1. I'd like to immediately point out that Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts was a mediocre, disappointing game entirely simply because it was a mediocre game that was a sequel to games I really liked.
2. I'm not getting my hopes up, I've been too disappointed by Rare to believe anything could happen.

Wut Nuts and Bolts was awesome. There's a difference between being a bad game and not being what you expected. Also why have you been disappointed by Rare. Besides Probably other than Perfect Dark zero they haven't made a bad game this Gen. Varying forms of average to great but not bad.

Also wanting to make a non Microsoft sequel is a pip dream at this point. Might as well think of some other custey mascot and throw some googly eyes on it.

No, I also hate the logic of a game sucking because it's different. I just found Nuts and Bolts to have a ton of issues as the type of game it was. The world was needlessly huge and thus boring, the missions were often uninteresting and meh and the humor was trying way too hard and didn't get even a chuckle out of me. I mean, I genuinely wish it was an awesome game but I can't say it was despite the creativity and gorgeous visuals. I've played all of the Rare 360 titles (beyond Kinect Sports season 2, I believe that's a thing right?) and all of them outside of Viva Pinata were just mediocre/ok. Sorry, they just...were. IMO and all that, obviously.

So we're lowering expectations for classic series so we can enjoy games? Gotcha..

And this seems like him just wishfully thinking out loud. Rare will be making Kinect games for the next few years.

They are rumored to be working on at least three Projects one of which is probably Kinect related. They also have been making hires from racing stuios. One of the current rumors is one of that one of the games is a water Platformer and the other is Project Gotham Racing 4.

again, that'd be nice, but I ignore rumors about obvious stuff about Nintendo having an upcoming Mario game, I'm not gonna care about a rumor that would be about something actually surprising.

yeah that's a dumb reasoning. While there was a decent amount of platforming it was more to get to the stuff to collect or defeat enemies, minigames etc. and exploring rather than precision platforming. Banjo Kazooie was many things, one of them wasn't exactly the 3D equivalent of Super Meat Boy or whatever. I mean the closest it got was like that one part in Rusty Bucket Bay that everyone hates.

You know what I meant. Rare should have stuck to its platforming roots.

Imo Microsoft killed rare. They are now stuck with making crappy Kinect games.
