Just sit back and relax. Remember alot of people got Wii Us today so the servers are being bombarded. If the update takes a few hours or downloading a game takes longer than normal this is more than likely the reason. Your system isnt broke or defected nor is there any problems with the internet. Just keep that in mind when you are impatient.

(This is why Nintendo suggested updating the Wii U before giving it as a gift)

Sigh... Update is still happening. It's been 3 and a half hours...

All's well, since I've just been playing Eternal Darkness in the meantime, but for people that were bent on playing their Wii U's right out of the box, it certainly is annoying to have an initial update that literally takes hours.

Honestly it doesnt bother me. I guess from playing MMOs for years I am just to big updates taking awhile. I just go and find something else to do in the mean time. Like now for instance I am preparing dinner.

I started the update about 15 minutes ago and I am already a quarter of the way done.

Well you could play it right out of the box ;)

The speed of the updates haven't been that bad so far. The sheer number of updates is what's annoying! Seriously, does every single little thing on the Wii U need an update?!

Well I am doing the first update now which I have to say is going pretty quick. Maybe its because I am on the West Coast and all the East Coasters and such have done this update already.

Why would I do that when the first thing I wanted to do with it was try out the internet browser?

It's amazing, by the way. Wii U game of the year for me.

The amazing browser. I can watch Bravest Warriors on Youtube on the TV while going to a different tab. It's pretty stellar.

The downloads didnt take too long for me. I think the longest one was the initial start up one and that took like 45 minutes. I already did the one for Netflix and Nintendoland as well and those only took maybe 5 to 10.

With 4 hours of waiting so far to actually do anything with the Wii U, the farthest I've gotten is getting my NNID processed. Initially, I was wowed when I opened the Wii U, but this is becoming a joke.

I know the "I Before E" rule, but it's still spelled t-h-e-i-r. So there.

Nope and the beauty part is its nonrefundable. I could see charging you to make sure you are an adult but than refunding it to you after its been clarified.
