I'm hesitant. I liked the premise of AC, and bought 3 for the wii U. It kind of disappointed me - so much effort to make it look like the coat waved in the wind, such annoying characters and "walk-like-a-truck" controls. 4 sounds like fun though...

Is it worth it? I considered 3 very boring, extremely lineair and full of stuff I disliked - hunting rabbits, yay, look, more grass, yay, hey a battle where I literally chase a dot on the screen (and NOTHING ELSE). What I liked was the climbing and stunting and stealthy vibe. But having to climb a tree over and over? I'm very unsure of whether or not to buy this, after playing ac3...

Ac 4 is the better ac to date.... much more improved on every aspect... of curse the basic mechanics are the same as the previous chapters, but the variety is much more...

I liked it for 20 odd hours, played it for 30 odd hours. It go a bit repetitive for me and I found it hard to like/hate/remember any of the characters or story threads. It all melded into a ball of brown for me. Not sure if I'll go back and finish it or not.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

@_Error Let us know your thoughts! Personally I love that game to the ground.

@Hy8gen, I've played it for a few hours now and I'm not completely happy with the purchase, and I'll try to explain it as clear as I can since English is not my first language.

First of all, I'm having frame rate issues: it's not smooth at all, and I'm wondering whether the problem could be... my TV? I say that because playing off-tv the game doesn't suffer from low frame rate. I don't know, AC4 is the first WiiU game I own that has this low frame rate so it's highly possible that the problem is the game itself.

Secondly, I've already found a glitch trying to catch Bartholomew (the wise man) early in the game: a minute or so after you run after him, he stops in a wall and that's all, you can't neither catch him nor kill him. The only solution: catch him before he got to that wall. If I've just started to play and I've found a glitch in one of the firsts missions, that doesn't speak well for Ubisoft.

Lastly, it's really annoying that every time you start the game Ubisoft ask you to create a Uplay account to connect with it. Why would I do that? I just want to play.

Having said that, I think it's an enjoyable game and I'm happy I didn't spend more that 15€ (12 £). However, being an AAA game... I expected much more. This kind of issues encourage me to purchase only Nintendo first party titles in the future.

Thank you guys again for your help and comments!

Hmm, sad to hear. I myself have had neither trouble with framerates or glitches. On the Uplay part it's the standard software for achievements and and unlockables and stuff that ubisoft uses, like origin and stuff. I hope your time with the game gets better cause it really is an amazing game.

So, how is that? We've bought the same game: I have low frame rate and you don't. Does anyone think the problem could be the TV? I ask because I honestly have no idea!

Let's say that I don't really know if the frame rate is actually lower than supposed to but for me the games runs as smooth as normally soo. What I did have is that my fathers TV would go off for a minute after a couple of hours off playing while my own TV doesn't have that

Probably not best to say it here, but I think I may just pick up AC4 to see what I think of it, but if I do, it will be on PS4. I see no reason to get a port where corners are cut and inferiority of the hardware set in when I have choices as sad as that is.

Well, it's $53 on Amazon right now for Ps4..... I got mine for $16 on the Wii U.

I'd say it's a bad game that is reasonably fun for about 5 hours... Then, once you become fully acquainted, it falls off a cliff. I actually can't imagine summoning the nerve to finish it simply because it is so bland and boring. For those first few hours, it manages to hint at being a grand pirate adventure but quickly devolves into a dire open-world game of connecting the icons and completing essentially the same pointless missions over and over again.

It's probably a perfect example of modern gaming drivel.

The PS4 versions undoubtedly runs better, but it's not really a massive chasm outside of the frame rate. Otherwise, the Gamepad features almost make the AC games bearable. Most notably, these games have the worst probably HUDs in any modern game. The constant popups, icons, radar, etc. all smear the screen with distracting, useless components that make the gameplay feel tasteless because you are simply encouraged to do it by the numbers.

Now, if you banish the HUD to the Gamepad, the game is vastly improved from a playability standpoint. First of all, having a big map without having to constantly pause the game is a huge boon for this series. Other features are less transforming, but equally convenient. And, of course, Off-TV is possibly the most enjoyable way to play since the game us hardly compelling enough on its own... I tend to require supplemental entertainment to even pretend to enjoy AC4.

Yeah, once I saw the prices, I think I'll get it for Wii U. Even 2 years won't be enough to drive the PS4 version's price down to the Wii U version's current price.

I've seen it pop up used fairly regularly around here in fantastic shape for $30 for the PS4 version so I'm fine with that. I wouldn't pay $50+ for it, not even $40 since it's an unknown to me.

The biggest difference seems to be the added pores and blood stains in the face closeups. The nicer shading and effects are good too, but I don't think that warrants 37 extra dollars.

Unless you find that one cheap, I'd say the WiiU one is the most convenient option.

No. personally i find everything about this game incredibly boring. they tell you, you can do this and this and this but it all feels exactly the same. i bought it thinking it was a mature stealth game, i took it back the next day

@_Error That's sad! The game do suffers from frame rate drops during massive battles/chases, but generally it runs very smoothly. Now when I think back, I didn't encounter any glitches in my total of 46 hours of gameplay. I'm no expert, but It could be that your game is faulty. Sad to see you're having a bad experience. Which is a shame because this is the best Assassin's Creed game in the franchise. In my opinion anyways

The U play is annoying, but I actually liked it because we get to play the "Kenway Fleet" mini game. This minigame gives you extra money and also the motivation to board/hijack higher level ships so you can use them in this mini game!

@ACK @RougeLeader Sure... It's so bland and boring that it gets 8/10 on NL, 4.5/5 on Metacritic, 9/10 on Gamespot and 8.5/10 on IGN. It's such an AWFUL GAME! (Don't hate just messing with you guys.)

I find this game to be VERY enjoyable and fun that I poured in 46 hours. But I do understand everyone has their own taste in gaming and this could not the their cup of tea. But if you want a somewhat stealth, pirate and open world game, this game just offers it all perfectly.

Assassin's Creed is awful as a stealth game. That's what games like Splinter Cell are for. Assassin's Creed has become an open world action/Adventure with stealth elements, kinda like Arkham City (I'll admit that I liked Arkham City more than Assassin's Creed 1-3, though). In this case it also has lots of naval action, which happens to be just as much the meat of the game as the regular ground missions.

Where did you buy it? There's a slight possibility that it's either defective (where you might be able to argue it with the people you bought it from and get it exchanged), or it might even be a bootleg.

Assassin's Creed IV is the best Assassin's Creed game I have played.

I'd also consider it to be the "Red Dead Redemption of Pirate games".

You should get it.
