I am unaware the response I will receive but this topic has been on my mind.
We now know there will be 4 retail exclusive amiibo's
Shulk: Gamestop (f*ck)
Meta Knight: Best Buy
Lucario: Toys R Us
Rosalina: Target.
I don't think this is a good idea because this means that future amiibo's will have more retailer's (Possibly Walmart) sticking their noses in and forcing people to go to their store to buy that amiibo. Some people might not like Gamestop or Target. I really don't think amiibo's being retail exclusive is a good idea.
I've said this before, but exclusive anything is usually a bad thing for consumers. Very rarely is it a good thing.
Exclusives are designed to draw you to a certain store. stores use it to generate more business. "Oh, you had to come all this way for this one item? Why not buy this item too? It will make your trip more worth it." If it didn't work then stores would stop doing it
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Yeah, it works for businesses. It's bad for consumers though. Less choice is usually bad.

In a way consumers have the same amount of choice, "Do I buy the figure or not?"

Since there is no way stores would be willing to stock all 50 Amiibos and are probably only tolerating the idea of like...40 because they get something exclusive, "bad idea" is not relevant almost. It's more accurate to say "this is the only way every Amiibo would be stocked in stores".

But they don't. They lose the choice of where to shop. Sales, customer service, proximity, etc. Exclusivity eliminates choice by those factors.

This is most likely the case. I haven't seen a single Wave 2 amiibo yet, so making certain amiibo exclusive makes them guaranteed to show up. It's not the most desirable method, but it works nonetheless.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.

So does online shopping basically lol Store exclusive doesn't change very much.
@DefHalan Yes, if changes a lot. Because everyone has to go to a certain store to buy an exclusive figure, the store may or may not be at a reasonable distance to where you live. It especially hurts when other stores who sell amiibo are near you and you know you would have been able to get the figure at those stores if they had not been exclusive.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
Is it going to stop you from buying the Amiibo? If you have the opportunity to buy it from that retailer will you? If so then the exclusiveness didn't really effect you. If you will not purchase it from a certain retailer no matter what then yes it will effect you. I doubt anyone is going to refuse to buy an amiibo they want if they are given the opportunity.

No they won't. But they may have a preferred chain to purchase the Amiibo, in which case the exclusivity has an impact. Maybe I just hate Gamestop's customer service. Or maybe I was going to Best Buy to buy something else, and had they had the Shulk amiibo, I would have picked it up. The fact that I can only buy Shulk from Gamestop means I lost my "vote with my dollar"
There are always several choices in the marketplace, which is why multiple chains exist in the first place.

You can still vote. By not buying a Shulk Amiibo you send the message that you won't spend your money at GameStop. Sucks you won't get a figure you want but you send your message (part of the reason stores do this is to get you to shop with them, doesn't mean you have to) but it is your choice, so it is you who is stopping you, not Nintendo or the stores
