Topic: Anyone hear anything about a Warriors U game?

I find this curious, and it's a rather big deal if Tecmo Koei hasn't announced a Warriors game for the Wii U.

Let me explain - just recently, Tecmo Koei Warriors games have launched consoles (or been in the launch window). They usually showcase the consoles strengths and unique bits and pieces - Samurai Warriors Chronicles has some spectacular use of the 3D, as well as great StreetPass and SpotPass features. There's one launching with the Vita, too that's taking advantage of its features.

It's a big deal because in Japan, Warriors games are big deals. They always launch as top-10 sellers (often in #1). In the west the games struggle, yes, but Japan is a massive market, and along with Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest, it's a franchise that has the power to sell a lot of consoles. There will be people that withhold buying a Wii U until a Warriors game is formally announced.

I may have just missed it though, so has a Warriors game been announced for the Wii U, or hinted at, and if it has could someone point me to a useful link? Google wasn't much help.

Thanks!

I don't think one has been announced but the Wii U's unveiling seemed earlier than Nintendo had intended which is probably why there have been so little concrete announcements of games for the console. There will probably be far more games announced for the console next year than there have been this year so a Warriors game could still be released near or at the launch of the Wii U.

Haven't heard anything but it should be likely. The Warriors series is like ridge racer where it has to be on every system.

WAT!

I thought that, yeah. I would be absolutely shocked if there wasn't a Warriors game within 6 months of the Wii U launch... and I'm really excited by the potential. That touch screen could be put to some great uses.

There wasn't Warriors game on Wii in a long time, until some spin-off first person slasher thing.. Then Samurai Warriors 3.

but yeah, nothing on the Warriors making it to WiiU. I imagine Tecmo going a spin off route and making a Warriors RTS to make use of the Wii U controller. That'd be interesting.

Something like Bladestorm or Kessen?

I'd play that.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms/ Nobunaga's Ambition would also be perfect for Wii U

Warriors, as you implied, is on all consoles. It wouldn't make it a system seller in Japan, because they would already have consoles with the game on it.

Oh my G-d I hated Kessen! One of the worst games I've ever played! The graphics, the story, the gameplay, ugh! Bladestorm looked better, but not by much. I say TK should just give up on those RTS-likes.

The story? You mean history? I thought Rome: Total War's story sucked too, but I can't really hold that against the developers

Kessen (and Bladestorm) is much like the Warriors games - there's a very loyal audience out there for those games. I'm rather hoping for an iPad port, personally.

The history channel has proven that history can be presented in an interesting way. Kessen completely failed to do that on so many levels, it's not even funny.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree on that.

People buy consoles to play Warriors games in Japan.

System seller by definition.

I guess I was just thinking of it differently. See, system seller, to me, always meant something that would get a consumer to buy their console over an opponent in the industry. For instance, Metroid Prime and Super Mario Sunshine on the GameCube, and Star Wars KotOR and Halo for the XBOX. And since all other systems have Warriors games, it just doesn't seem to be that big of a factor to me, especially since it doesn't seem to change much from game to game.

But I don't know, those Japanese have some serious love for certain franchises. Like Dragon Quest.

The Xbox 360 doesn't get many Warriors games. Nor did the DS or Wii. One of the reasons for the PSP's (and PS3) success in Japan was the huge number of Warriors games on it - including the very Monster Hunter-like Strikeforce.

Most Warriors games hit the Japanese market in the top three, if not #1 seller on the charts. It's definately one of "those" franchises for the Japanese - up with Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter, as games the West "doesn't get" but are mammoth in popularity over there.

Best cosplay of all, too.

I have an XBOX, and I swear, there are tons of different Warriors games, Gundam, Dynasty, and otherwise. Though I don't have a PS3 or PSP, so it is very possible that there are a bunch more of them on there. I suppose it makes sense too, being the Japanese-made system of the two.

I honestly never cared for the games, myself. They're okay, but not much more than that for me.

Last I checked, there were only two PSP exclusive Warrior games and one PS3 exclusive. Otherwise, the Xbox has about as many Warrior games as any other console (excluding the Wii, which only has 3), and the Xbox versions actually sell better in the West, so I doubt they'll be going PS3 exclusive anytime soon.

Are you counting Japan in that?

And there was only one or two Warriors games on the DS. Just considering handhelds, the PSP's six (with more coming) walks all over the DS/ 3DS output.

Yes I was. Though I just noticed I might have to count Warrior Orochi Z as another PS3 exclusive and Multi-Raid 2 as a PSP exclusive. So I was one off for each. You can find them all on the Koei Wiki. Oh yeah, and Strikeforce was not a PSP Exclusive. It's also on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

There's more of these games on the Xbox 360 than I thought (though I can assure you, the PS3 versions of these games outsell the Xbox 360 version worldwide, by a long way, thanks to the massive difference in install base in consoles in Japan, which is where these games sell best).

That said, you're still off: Dynasty Warriors 7: Xtreme Legends is PS3 exclusive. Samurai Warriors 3: Empires and Warriors Orochi 3 are also exclusives.

And once again, with the handhelds, the DS/ 3DS has two I can count - a terrible DS game, and Chronicles on the 3DS. iPhone/ iPad has none. The PSP has eight or thereabouts. Some are also on the consoles, yes, but that isn't the point - the point is that Warriors fans on the go are going to have the PSP as their console of choice.
