At first, I didn't care about the Wii U. As more time goes by, I am getting more interested, but I really think Nintendo should release some info as to the hardware it uses. There are so many rumors, putting me off. Is it more powerful, less powerful..? I want to know if it has the hardware similar to the competitions, so I know it will last and not be just a "bridge" into the next gen. I don't really want to buy it if the competitions hardware is far better, and they have already established a good online service, where this is Nintendos true first time really giving an real online experience. Anyone else feel this way?

Cannot wait for the Wii U

Nintendo is stuck between a rock and a hard place. They don't like losing money on hardware and consumers don't want to pay much for consoles. So how can they design a bleeding-edge console and not lose money selling it to penny-pinching consumers? Consumers who think games should cost 99 cents. Nintendo has to walk a very fine line. I can imagine it being very frustrating for them to have to cut corners. But the market is brutal.

I'm going to decide based on the games available for the Wii U. I bought a Wii in 2008 because I was more interested in its games than I was in either the 360 or PS3's games. It's a matter of personal preference. Let the games be your guide.

You know Nintendo, we won't know anything about the hardware until the consoles goes on sale and some enterprising types take it apart and look at the components. Releasing specs just isn't what Nintendo do.

I go by Lin1876 everywhere in games, so keep an eye out for me!

I think one of the only specs we'll see is the screen resolution, but not much else. The rumorians don't help, but they don't make sense either, so why bother? I don't care if they have monkeys spinning wheels in my wiiU while managing an ant farm to get me great console games - the result is all that matters to me.

Let go of the specs and embrace the possibilities. Sounds like a paradox, but it really isn't that strange.

Letting the games be your gaudier is somewhat faulty logic as you need hardware to make new things possible. Look at the Alan wake nivida demo. None of the consoles can pull that yetxwhich is Sade because that was 2007. Weak hardware only makes the game worse and we end of with crqpxlike the skyward sword world map not being connected.

Other than having a passing interest, Nintendo's competition is of little consequence to me. I am not going to buy the next Playstation and certainly not an Xbox. Video games are fun but I prefer the Atari-Super Nintendo generations anyway. I will play upcoming Nintendo games but that is it for me as future video games go. Besides I don't spend hours upon hours playing video games.

Nintendo have never been very open regarding hardware specs, and I doubt Wii U will be different. I think it'll be up to the 3rd parties to paint a clearer picture (hopefully at E3).

Specs only matter for third parties which don't matter all that much to me because I'll probably end up getting them on PC. I'm buying a Wii U for Nintendo's games in which case, the weaker the better as that will mean cheaper. I'll be getting one eventually but it will depend on the price and games as to when. Those are of most concern to me, not specs.

I can't believe it. A Nintendo fan just said that he don't want to buy a Nintendo console because the competitors might have better hardware. You for real? So you never bought the Wii, DS or 3DS then I assume? I thought everyone bought a Nintendo console for the Nintendo games, not the graphics.

I don't give a crap about the graphics, the hardware or various gimmicks like 3D, motion controls and whatnot. All I care for is the games. I'll be getting a Wii U sooner or later, but at day-one, well, I'm not sure. Only if it has a seriously good launch line-up. So no, unlike you, I'm not curious to find out how powerful it is, I'm just curious to find out what games are coming for it. The 3DS has a huge line-up of games, and I fear that Nintendo are spending too much resources on it. They also still support the Wii, so Wii U games will be few and far between. Four out of five Nintendo games don't interest me, so Nintendo better show me some killer games or I won't get the Wii U until 2014 — when more games will be out, and for a lower price.

Have you ever thought that they might actually be talking about the Play-Controller's processor and/or graphics? It's made to be able to play EVERY game on the Wii U console when the TV's not in use, right? So, if it isn't powerful enough, it won't play the games very effectively.

This signature is an awful waste of time

All processing will be done on the console. The resulting audio and video will be streamed to the controller. The controller is going to be as dumb and cheap as they can make it.

3rd party support is good and all but what I dont really like is when 10 games come out every month from different developers. You can never get around to playing half of them before the next batch hits the shelves. Thats why I sold the PS3 and stuck with the Wii because of the breathing space between releases giving me time to actually enjoy a game in its entirety. I have a few mates with PS360s and they get a new game every week without even finishing what they got the week before. The old dreaded catch-up curse is what I'm gonna fear with Wii U

@madaussiebloke

Or you could get a few games that month and wait for the rest to go down in price.

I've been here a while. I'm just not sure why people have the compulsion to buy every game that comes out. This month and May are going to be hell for me as an xbox user but I've looked at all the games coming out and piddled between a few games.

To be honest, I'm pretty sure that was a design decision, not a hardware limitation that lead to that. And I'm glad they did it. I wouldn't want all Zelda games like that, but it made sense and worked to an effect that was different from most Hyrulian adventures.

I'd have to disagree. Pretty sure it was a decsion based on the low amount of ram the wii has. Regardless it's a horrible step backwards for a series who's big decision for a series that through all these years have had exploration as a key aspect of gameplay. It seems odd that a series were one of the fundamental design principles on modern Hardware that would allow this to be fully realized.

@Sony_70 No. The Wii is more powerful than the previous generation consoles. It has more ram than gamecube. I shouldn't have to point out all of the open world games to come out last generation. To say that the non connected world map was implemented because of weak tech is simply wrong. The series took a new direction because Nintendo heard the complaints that every game was the same, and tried to mix it up.

Looking at my game shelf I can see 3 gamecube games that had impressive open world play. Both True Crime Streets of LA/New York and Zelda Wind Waker also The Godfather blackhand edition on Wii was huge probably not to PS360 standards these days but I thought they were great technical feats on weaker hardware. It comes down to lazy development why more of these games were not realised on Wii.
